Is it safe to overclock my intel pentium 2 400mhz to 450mhz? I have it on a Asus P2B AGP motherboard, and 450 is the highest it will support. Overclocking is just a matter of changing jumper settings on the motherboard, right? My motherboard's documentation say that overclocking is not recommended because "It may result in slower speed." and says something about VID. (I've never overclocked before... so I'm afriad I'll melt it of something - don't have any cash to pay for a new one, hehe)

I hope you realise that you need to raise the FSB from current 100Mhz to something higher to overclock. You CPU runs at 4x100, and you can take it to 4x110 safely, 4x115 is safe too, but make sure you memory is pc100 8ns. Above 115 FSB well, other things come into play, like your AGP card (can it handle the higher FSB?). But 115 will be safe.

Unfortunatelly you cannot change the multiplier to say 4.5x100. Intel CPU's are locked. It would be so nice if you could!

Good luck.
