I have read a lot about overclocking of CPU's, graphics cards and such, but no matter where I read this information no article takes you through the basics. It seems that everyone assumes that people are hardware gurus.

Where are all these settings that one can change, how does one change them and how do you get to them ?

Also does anyone know how to get an upgraded bios for award and Via Technology VT82C691 motherboard ?

You can start right here at http://sysopt.earthweb.com/overc.html

First have a read here:
http://sysopt.earthweb.com/overc.html

for a crash course!

The settings you need to adjust will either be on the motherboard - jumpers and/or dip switches, or in BIOS (for SoftMenu BIOSes) or a combination of both.

Not all motherboards facilitate overclocking - some autodetect the CPU core voltage, FSB frequency and multiplier (which is locked on most Intel chips anyway) it you've got one of these, overclocking is a lot harder, but still possible in some circumstances (there are software utilities that can sometimes help, but that's a bit further down the line!). So if you've got a motherboard that allows you to manually adjust these things, you're heading in the right direction!

If you could provide us with a list of your components e.g motherboard type, ram, cpu, video card, operating system etc then I will be able to give you a more detailed description of how to overclock your system.
