I was just about to order a Sony Spressa 8/4/32 internal SCSI CD-Rewritable drive, but I'm getting some conflicting answers about which SCSI card to get and how to connect it. Please forgive my know-nothingism as I have never dealt with SCSI before. I have been told by one person that I need a SCSI card which connects to my PCI slot, and by another person that I need the card to connect to the ISA slot. Can I do it either way, or is someone wrong? I've also been trying to find a SCSI-2 card which will work with my PIII Micron and this drive, but trying to decipher the cards for sale online is like teaching myself Sanskrit. I see cards with or without BIOS, with all kinds of external connectors (DB25 pin?), passive or active, some that say "1 channel", and about every possible acronym known to exist. I found an Adaptec 2906 PCI card, but I don't know if it will work. Any advice for a SCSI greenie?

1%, In my humble opinion one of the best scsi cards you can get for your money that will handle the Sony cd you want is made by SIIG (http://www.siig.com) and the model is a "AP-10" and it is a PCI slot it has on-board BOOTABLE Bios so you can boot up the computer from scsi harddrives if you choose to do so in the future. as for the Adaptec 2906 card it too is a pci slot card but it has no bios on the card so it can NOT be used to control hard drives that you might want to boot from in the future. Either card will work for you. with them being about the same amount of money I personally would get the one that can do more work!

I'm using an Adaptec 2930CU PCI card. It is a bootable SCSI card. It works wonderfully with my HP 9200i SCSI CDRW drive. It has an internal 50 pin connector & an external connector also.

The term active or passive refer to the terminator at the last device on the chain. Many scsi devices are "self-terminating" eliminating the need for a terminator.. DrVette

Thanks for the help everyone! Just one more thought-I've got an IDE hard drive and CD-ROM. Will these play well together with the SCSI CD-RW, and will I be able to burn from the CD-ROM onto the CD-RW? Thanks again
