Is there a such thing??? A guy at school tried to start an argument with me about this, being very ademate that there was. I refuse to play his game, but I am curious.
There's two shops in town (Warner Robins, GA) that sell P-II 500 systems; my belief is that they somehow unlocked a multiplier or put it on a board with the right FSB's to get 500mhz.

I know a store selling 466,500,533,etc. as PII.Those processors are Celerons. The store I know that does that, say they do that because they don't know what Celeron is,those people only know Pentium. It is illegal to sell Celerons as PII's,but noone seems to be doing something about it.
BTW,I don't care they do that.People should just inform better before they buy a 'puter or processor so that they will all know about PII/III,Celerons,AMD K6-2/3,AMD K7-Athlon/Duron,Cyrix and Winchip.Have I forgotten anything?
People think they can just walk to a store and go home 5 minuts later with the computer they think they wanted. That's impossible, except when you know something about it.

There is no such thing as a P2 500. The P2 range (deschutes core) ended with the 450 flavor.
Some stores do market the celeron as P2-celeron. A friend bought a laptop labeled p2-533 (Celeron). This is a fraud, but people tend to buy whatever says Pentium, so it just serves them right.

one thing thta helps them sell the system as a pII is the fact that the system properties will id some celerons as pII, such as the machine i am typing on. I know for a fact thta it is a celeron 400, but system properties says pII
I showed him this post while at school and he stuffed his foot in his mouth. Thanks everyone, it's nice to know I'm not losing my mind!
