Just wonderin' 'cause don't really know if the 2nd generation Caviar drives are like their little-bro defective counterpart.
Since I'm gettin the drive as a trade, hoping it doesn't fail me within a year, but if it does and I want it RMA'd for another one @ WD would I need proof of purchase (receipt) or would the serial # on the drive just do?
Thanks in advance...
Plucky
I've had drives RMA'd through WD, Seagate, & Quantum. No one has ever asked for a reciept, just the serial # and other markings from the drive.
Once had a 420mb WD drive fail within 1 week of expiration. They took care of it, sent out a new one - with new date code! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Unfortunately they still HAD a new 420...
Still got it, still unopened.

Plucky, when you get the drive you should go to WD's website and check on the drive's warranty status just to be sure..but I suppose that it all depends on how up to date the drive is also LOL..
Ed_S,
Would you be willing to part with that 420? Let me know. thanks..

pickel - ya think so? I'm one of those party-pooper kinda guys. Don't wanna ruin your party.
By the way, have fun guys/gals and don't drink and drive. Give ya partners a good smoochin' valentine's kiss for me will ya...
Happy valentines. ^_^
PD, the production date is clearly marked on WD drives - if it's less than 3 yrs old, it's covered.
commodsquad - hadn't really thought about it, it's so small by today's standards, yet it IS new! Makes it a little hard to place a value. BTW, it's dated Dec-97 so still has 10 months to go under warranty. (can read through the static bag)
What did you have in mind?

Ed - hey I want the drive too, but only need
210megs. Maybe you can saw it in half and me and commonsquad can share it. What a genius idea.
Better yet, saw it first and I'll tell you then if I want it or not...hehehe LOL

I RMA'd a WD drive not long ago. Ed_S is correct, you won't need a receipt if the drive's mfg date is < or =3yrs, but if it's over then you will need a receipt. I did.
