Anyone else having a slow time of it today?
Seems that anywhere else I go on the net, things are working fine. Here, however, it's taking forever for some of these threads to refresh, at least for me that is.

Most routers in North America are being set to filter packets, as to avoid more DDoS attacks.

This slows down router performance to a crawl.

My sentiments are that this whole DDoS thing is a ploy to get us to accept more restraints on our Internet use. For if these were hackers or script kiddies, then they would have attacked http://www.microsoft.com first.

This site though seems slower than any other. I'm on a college network so mostly things are blazing fast for me...

I'd have to agree Dominus, it din't seem to take long for certain government entities to start pointing fingers at educational institutions as being the conduit for these attacks of late. Does make one wonder just how far the gov will go to try to put restraints on free entreprise, freedom of speach and where things are headed when it comes to civil liberties in regards to the net.
All the more reason to promote better crypto, keep it available to the consumer and let the hackers and script kiddies have at. They can then act as the canary in the mineshaft if ya know what I mean.

~edit a couple of months ago, there were 2 reports of hacks(dont remember details). Immediately Janet Reno says that the Government should regulate and police the internet. Every time there is a hack, the Gov says that we need regulation. Coincidence...... You decide!!!!!!

man, and i was just thinking that my server was slow or something... i tried some other sites (an unusual thing for me on the weekend), and found that they loaded normally, if not actually fast. something must be up with earthweb or sysopt or something if everyone is experiencing everything this slowly.

Well, the net is definitely slower for me today, but my main ISP is always flooded with users on Sundays. It even gets bad enough on weekends that I commonly use my college's isp services for weekend surfing. Sysopt in particular seems to be a little slower as compared to usual, though.

BTW, at what point do you have to many ISP's? I was looking at my dial-up networking, and I've got one commercial, 5 free, and 1 college provider.

Chainsaw may be right about the "Government's " hand in all this(DDOS). I wouldn't put it past them to have started this mess themselves.The reason being to have an excuse for them to step in and try to regulate/control the internet. Al Gore has already said that he invented the internet. I'm suprised he hasn't tried to get some kind of compensation for it's use in the form of royalties.

Yep, still very slow today, elsewhere my throughput is normal except of course at the free e-card sites.

So what's up Sysopt, any clues?

I'm fairly used to slow, after all I only use a 56k dial up, but this is really crawlin' these last two days.

Any info would be appreciated.
