Can anybody out there tell me what the maximum voltage (without it blowing up )can be for a PIII 500Mhz (Katmai).
Thanks in advance.

IFReeman 08-06-2000, 09:46 AM Can anybody out there tell me what the maximum voltage (without it blowing up )can be for a PIII 500Mhz (Katmai). Thanks in advance. Iain Roy 08-06-2000, 09:52 AM As a rule of thumb, +10% is conservative, +20% aggressive and needs good cooling. Somewhere in between is where most OC systems go. I don't recall what voltage I used on my Katami ~ those babies really get hot! I'm running a Coppermine (1.65V default)at 1.8 right now. I've run it at 1.9 for long periods and 2.0 for a while. I don't believe in the concept of "burning in". I was just looking for OC limits. IFReeman 08-06-2000, 09:58 AM Thanks for the reply Roy, I am using an Alpha 3125S M60 heatsink and fan combo on it so that should help to keep it cool. My current system temp is 25C and my chip temperature is 30C. That is without any overclocking. Does that sound O.K Regards Iain krusty the klown 08-06-2000, 11:04 AM Those temps look good to me! 30ºC is low - ur doing something right there! Mungla 08-06-2000, 11:06 AM The Katmai's used 2V for the core. The most I ever put my Katmai 500 to was 2.2-2.3V. Anything more than that is like what Roy said. I wouldn't exceed 2.3V unless you have extreme cooling like a Peltier. The only way I was able to achieve 665MHz with my Katmai 500 was because of a Peltier. If you plan to hit 124-133fsb, plan on better cooling. Another than that, you shouldn't have any problems whatsoever. Katmai's aren't known for their extreme overclocking potential like the new CuMines, but you never know! Good luck' alan 08-06-2000, 01:34 PM my Katami 500 running @ 560 only gets to 31c even after hard gaming, but saying that i moved my tower and the temp has gone up by about 7c overall. also running @ 1.9v IFReeman 08-06-2000, 03:35 PM Thanks for the replies. I have managed to get the cpu to 600 so far no problems. I am taking it slowly to start with, the core voltage is 2.05V, the system temp is 25C and the cpu temp is only 32C so it is still looking good. I dont think I will be able to go much further as I am only using PC100 ram as I dont have the money at the moment to upgrade. But I am quite happy with the increase so far. Regards Iain SysOpt.com
