for example, today, anything you type and it searches for is xtrictly large companies either selling book on the topic, or large porn sites, using the name to attract anything to them.
NOt like in the old days that I could find anything that I was looking for easily.
oh well! any one know of any site like this?

www.google.com (http://www.google.com)

Very exact. All you need. No commercialization. No porn spam seearch hits.
Enjoy-

I like to use http://www.c4.com which uses several search engines (including google). This was suggested by a fellow member here at SysOpt named KillerBug some time ago.
Thanks to KillerBug!! (giving you your umm props. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif )

C4 is by far the best. It tends to be a little slower with a dial up, but it's worth the wait as it pulls results from many search engines.

When I really, REALLY need to find something, I use Copernic. www.coppernic.com (http://www.coppernic.com)

What is does is span about 10 or so of the most popular search engines out there. It also saves previous searches, It is a little sluggish over dial-up but definately useable.

The best part about it (besides the fact that it is freeware) is that it constantly updates itself to include the latest search engines.

It also searches newsgroups, people, and email addresses using the same technique.

If you choose to shell out the $$$ to get the full version, you can search for books, newspapers, computers, etc. I've not paid since the base version is good enough for me.

As for being commercialized, there is one banner ad across the top that constantly switches. You can make it go away by double clicking to the left or right of it buit it will appear again before too long. If you pay, thye banner supposedly goers away.

Give it a try.

The webferret (http://www.ferretsoft.com/netferret/index.html) is just plain awesome and much easier to use(IMO) that copernic. actually they have a power pak with all kinds of goodies.

Sorry you feel that way. But the Webferret will have me 500 hits in 3 or 4 seconds and searchs pretty much the same sites.
It does look like a pretty cool site. Just too slow for me because it only shows 20 hits per page. I just scroll throug the webferret in a small window.

Hey what happend to the other post between the two of mine?

www.alltheweb.com (http://www.alltheweb.com) if you really want LOTS of hits www.google.com (http://www.google.com) gets my vote for relevence though, its system really does work well. www.dogpile.com (http://www.dogpile.com) does the same thing as www.c4.com (http://www.c4.com) though may cover some different engines

In most cases http://www.Google.com is the way to go. Ocasionally, if you're looking for some rare/exotic stuff, copernic is worth a try.

webferret GOOD!
I think I will keep it as a pet!
actually is good at the research lab (in the university) but outside I think it mutates into something slow, I think that it is mainly because of a bad diet 56k, no proteins or boosters!
oh well, it will b happy with its T3 @ school!
makes research faster and easier...

Thank Jad!
