overclocking means
running a CPU or videocard or whatever
above its rated speed

often when a new CPU is released the market for it is not so high due to the highprice
so often the manufacturer has to lower the speed on the chip perhaps from 800 to 600mhz
this means that the 600mhz chips are really 800ones and thus they can be OCd to that or maybe even higher

often nowadays you OC your CPU by increasing the FSB from 66 to say 100mhz
one of the more famous OC cpus where the celeron 300A just by changing the FSB to 100mhz from 66 you would get a 450A instead for no aditional cost
prior to the celeron 300A OCning was almost entierly dont by enthusiasts like my self an active OCer from 1989 belive it or not i was 9 back then. The process whas a little bit harder and more risky
it was not uncommon that one had to solder chips to the motherboard

OCing is generally safe if you dont set the goals to high like trying to OC a PIII500 to 1ghz
try a small pump at a time and maybe increase the voltage until the CPU is as fast and stable as you want it
its not a good idea to bump the voltage with more than .3volts
you will also need some good cooling
a good place for cooling is http://www.plycon.com or http://www.thecardcooler.com

i will take no responsability for any damage that might inflict on your comp

but if you take it slow and read more about it on many of the OC pages on the internet like this forum the risk is reduced to almost nothing

have fun
thats the most important part
