After building several hundred Intel based systems I'm finally moving to AMD based products simply because of component price - for the same price as a PIII550 I can buy an Athlon 750. However there are a few things I need to ask first.

1) Since I wont be overclocking this setup will a 230W PSU supply a stable enough voltage to the CPU etc, setup as follows

Athlon 750
128mb PC133 preferable with KX/KT133 mb
17.3 gb Fujitsu
10X DVD
Creative 128
Voodoo3 3000
56k Modem
Modular tech MM100PCTV card

2)What basic motherboard should I use. I've been looking at a Chaintech CT-7ATA KX133 solution although the onboard AC97 audio seems like a waste of money. Really I only need a basic board which is reliable, offers decent performance and has good upgrade options, eg PCI , memory.

Any input greatly appreciated

i have used both the Asus and Abit mobos and they boht work great. And i would not go below 300 watts on the pwer supply

If ya check AMD's website they have a list of "suggested" compatible components, power supplys are listed as well as alot of other info concerning parts and building AMD systems... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I'd say 300watt psu definetly. For a mobo, get an MSI 6167 or an Abit KA7 for max. performance and stablility, that is if you're using an Athlon classic in these machines.

I would reccomend the Asus K7V, it is definitely one of the fastest and most stable mobos currently based on the KX133 chipset. It also comes with the option of onboard or no onboard audio.

Asus k7v is somewhat pricey, but good. I haven't had an easier setup. I don't think that you'll win significantly by picking the board without onboard sound. They are somewhat hard to find and the price is essentially identical. Good 250W supply is must. I'd suggest you to try different (not necessary from the AMD recommended list) and see if you have problems. If not - stick to the same brand. Same thing about memory. I believe that Asus is more tolerant to the generic DIMMs - you might save some money there too.
