What is more lame is that they will not kill that name that has been sitting around since 50mhz!

Is it good for overclocking? If not I'm not THAT interested, takes the fun out of it when its not that good for overclocking.

Check out the new logo:

Looks like they got the same guys who made Apple's OS X to design the logo.
The name "Pentium" has become an buzz word synonymous with Intel and "good" processors. It's probably a smart move not to change now, especially with AMD in the condition that it is. Sometimes it's not about the better product, but how you market it and the feel/look the buyer has for the product. Sadly this happens ALOT in the gaming industry. *cough*Who's Wants to be a Millionare 2nd Edition on Top 10 chart*cough*

What a stupid name. Pentium 4. Willamette wasn't that bad a name... Guess Intel marketing really needed the word "Pentium" in it or else it wouldn't have sell at all...

Actually krusty you're right, but from what I heard, they discontinued that particular line because the 666v needed to power the chip caused the processor to overheat. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

boy, that one was bad

Very funny Krusty but unless that is your website you shouldn't link it directly.

Brought to you by CMonster Linux on an 800mhz Inhell processor...well a 533A Celeron @800mhz http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

The name pentium stuck because of the marketing department at Intel wanted it to.

Pentium Pro was not the working name for that chip. Engineering gave the chip the name Sexium, meaning 6th, which made sense coming after Pentium, meaning 5th.

The marketing department said the had to change the name. I guess they were afraid of marketing anything beginning with Sex.

Marketing won the battle and the Engineers started calling it Pentium Pro. Subsequently Pentium 2,3,4, etc but no Sexium.
