Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : NE1 know where I can get a file for Zipcodes? Free?
I am looking for a file that has zip codes and counties in it. I don't need them all just for like TX,KS,MO,OK,CO. I don't want to pay $20 for it either. Cause I can get the info just would be easier to have a file of it.
TIA,
BC

hmmmm, that information is not as readily availible as one might think.
But I did find this really handy resource for information about each State (I listed the States you asked for below). If you just go the the page for a State, you'll find it gives (among other things) a condensed list of all the Zip codes grouped by their first three numbers. Click on the numbers and get a comprehensive list of all the Zips that start w/those 3 numbers and the county/city for that code. Main page it here:

well, I tried.
all the info is availible at the link I provided.
No you helped but I just need import them into a database so I don't think the links were all that practical for that. But thanks anyways out.
*Edit* So what I could use is just a plain old ASCII text doc that has them in there. Or word/excel.

OIC. Well, I ran across a lot of sites selling info like that, but no one giving it away. I'll keep my eyes open for ya.

Yes Jad there are tons of ways to look up these zip codes, however, what I am looking for is like a ASCII text doc that I can import. It will be kind of hard to go and ask for a zip for every city in a state then write it down don'tcha think?
Didn't I say this all before?
Unless there is something that I am missing on that page.

Well, ya know BC, it wouldn't be all that difficult to compile a small database usable file from the site I linked to. Especially since you only need a few States.
The zips are listed on the site grouped by the first 3 digits. So, for example, KS only has 19 groups of zips to deal with. I clicked one of them (660) and then just highlighted and saved the text. Then using 'replace' to get rid of all the extra spaces I got the file to this format is less than 30 seconds:
66002 <----------zip
Atchison <----------city
Atchison <----------county
66006
BaldwinCity
Douglas
66007
Basehor
Leavenworth
66008
Bendena
Doniphan
66010
BlueMound
Linn
66012
BonnerSprings
Wyandotte ......

Obviously involves a little work, but not too bad. Guess it'll depend whether or not someone come through with a file for ya. Good luck.
Thanks OuT. I didn't look all that hard at it to be truthful. If no file than that is my best bet I guess http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Thanks,
