Ctrl + Alt + Del --- Question

Would someone in the know kindly tell me which "items" MUST be running in the background and that appear when the above referenced keys are typed? This was a topic awhile ago, but I do not remember.

You can end task on all except explorer and systray.

If I'm wrong, correct me, but I never run Systray and have no ill-effects and still get sound. It is only the Volume control.

Therefore, I believe only Explorer needs to be running.

you are correct socalgal the only thing on most system is explorer how ever on some system there is one othere, and I cant remember the name that if you shut down will shut down your computer found that out on a Packhard Smell computer http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Socalgal: I have a string a mile long! But they all seem necessary for the proper performance of my computer. If I end their task nothing would be working ,Right???
For example, Ihave Systray, Explorer, Norton protect,3dmouse,Rnaaap(modem),zonealarm,
Pleapu( CPU control panel), and last but not least, Sysopt discussion forum.(Netscape)
How would these work if not running?? As usual, I'm confused!!!

NOTE: Explorer and Systray are Windows components that Windows requires to function properly
Are you running any other programs that might be causing a conflict?
A terminate and stay resident (TSR) program may be causing problems. To close TSR programs that are running on your computer, follow these steps in Windows 95: http:// support.microsoft.com / support / kb / articles / Q222 / 4 / 69.ASP


Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE simultaneously to open the Close Program dialog box. Any of the programs listed (except for Explorer and Systray) could be causing the problem.

Click each program one at a time (except for Explorer and Systray), and then click End Task. This disables the program in your current Windows session. The next time you restart Windows, these programs will start again. Try the game again with all of these programs disabled, and then click the Back button in your browser to return to this troubleshooter and answer the questions below.....hope this helps; Take me to your leader.

3dmouse can be closed, but you will lose the ability to use the wheel or 3rd button if you have them. your modem will work without it that running, all of them work without the stuff in the panel. The panel is full of thing that are running at that point, for example, netscape. my cable modem will run without the option in the ctrl-alt-del panel, but i wont be able to use its software.
