Roy 06-14-2000, 08:34 PM Yup, that't the chip's heat transfer plate. The chip itself is the same size. All the rest is wiring and miscellaneous parts. neo_otyugh 06-14-2000, 09:46 PM that little chip trips me out...its tiny...i was thinking though...what if i was to put a copper plate the same thickness of the chip between the silicon and the heatsink? would that help cooling? basically a square that would fit around the core, and fill all that empty space... Szech 06-14-2000, 11:01 PM neo_otyugh: You can buy those here http://www.3dfxcool.com/coppershim.htm But if you have the tools / ambition to build it yourself, then by all means... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif neo_otyugh 06-15-2000, 03:10 AM gonna go to the hardware store then...i think there is entirely too little a contact area for the best cooling on there... Pack'nHeat 06-15-2000, 03:17 PM I've read and thought about these hand made copper plates but I wonder how level they would be with the raised part of the FC-PGA. Would you just lay it on there and put your grease on both the chip and plate and hope it all touches the heatsink? I wonder what SCOTTER thinks about it? AnakiMana 06-15-2000, 03:22 PM I've heard some strange things... but mounting a heatsink? Ohhhhh, baby! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif AnakiMana scotter 06-16-2000, 02:44 AM you have to lap it down till it fits right and yes it can help drop the over all temp as your going to have more serface area in contact with the chip even if it's not touching the core the plate will still help the first time I made a cap for mine I screwd up and did not make sure the cap was touching the core and fryed my chip really fast the next one I did and the one a friend made and sent me I laped down to a perfict fit you can check t all out at my web site www.comppwizz.com (http://www.comppwizz.com) under custom cap SysOpt.com
