I am about to buy another BF6 mobo and saw that a Promise Ultra ATA66 controller was only $29. Is this the best ATA66 card? And how will a WD or Maxtor hdd do running on this after being oc'ed to 120MHz fsb (with 1/4 PCI divider)
Thanks-
Dave

Dave, I say don't waste your $$$. The performance gain is not noticeable.
I've got it, but I don't use it.
If you really want to see the improvements get an FASTRAK66 IDE RAID card instead. With 2 ATA66 drives linked using RAID LEVEL 0, you can expect an overall 33%-50% increase in data transfers.
I'm gettin' one pretty darn soon.

Answered my own question- They're $70 on PW and the Ultra ATA66 Promise is $29. I don;t have much to spend so... The will gain speed as apps use the technology though right? Or are they already using it?
Thanks-Dave

Dave, I've got it and I don't ever bother using it, doesn't that tell you something?
ATA66...its more hype than anything else.
Save the $30 and get some hamburgers @ McDonalds instead 'cause they're only $0.59 today, and I could sure use a couple of 'em right about now. *stomach growling*
Yes yes yes !!! go and buy the FastTrack controller !!! too fast.
I have 2 of these with 4 HD in RAID0... waow...

I've got a BE6 that supports ata/66, why not do that instead of adding a card? Mine works great and the performance is extremely noticeable.
I got mine about 5 months ago and payed 115 plus shipping.

Well, for the current price, it is cheaper to get a better ATA66 controller than the Highpoint controller and the BF6. I like the board alot and have heard alot of bad things about the BE6-II highpoint controller.
Thanks-Dave

Moi aussi.
Merci beaucoup!

i second that on the highpoint controller, its not great. plus you have to update an onboard controller bios with the mb bios. i don't think you can flash it separately.
the only reason i would buy a controller would be if i needed more than 4 ide devices, though. if it wasn't built into my soyo mb, i probably wouldn't use it at all.
