Hey folks, This was kinda interesting. They finished the Klat2 and apparently it was a big hit. It was mentioned on sysopt before but I thought I'd mention it again. Heres the home page - http://aggregate.org/KLAT2/
I am wandering though, Is the 3D-now Registers the old 586 style (appendid to the FPU) or not. I didn't think they were, however, that speel on why it didn't qualify for the top500 list messed me up.
Anyway, Back to the dungeon to whip up my own klat-concoction.

Oh my goodness that's nutty! THREE ethernet cards in each computer!?! Wonder what it's used for...

The 3d-now! registers are of the new enhanced form, but still are based on the same standard streaming FPU instructions as before.
I've beacme really interested in cluster based computing. A friend and I are thinking about networking a Linux Beowulf processing cluster comprised of several off-the-shelve Pentium 200's. If we ever get around to it, I make sure to post some cool info about it.
Catch ya' later,

Here's all the info you need:

Beowulf is a freely distributable addon for many versions of Linux. It is really more of a networking layer than anything.
Assuming you have the systems to use, a clustered proccesing network isn't that heard to implement. You could effectively use it on with a system built of 486's, or even P3 Xeons. Don't expect to much with a Bewoulf network beside number crunching. You could to do some high level vector analysis, extreme file serving, or even crack RC-5.

This was briefly mentioned in the 'brainstorming session':

As I said there, just think of what the Sysopt community could knock up - watercooling.... nah FREON.... 64 athlons / P3's.... supercooled.... each clocking at over 1GHz... Mmmmmmmm
Then we'd just have to think of a use for it!
