I've been building systems for several years though I've never built a system using AMD's Athlon cpu. A friend the other day told me that Athlons have to have a special power supply but couldn't tell me why or the specs on what it needed... It seems to me that ATX is a standard and that the motherboard is the only component that would require any specifics in a power supply, the cpu should be independent of that . . .

Thanks for any help,
RaeRae

They don't need a special, power supply. You NEED to get a 300w or higher power supply. Athlon are big power hoggers, and with 300w or over, you're safe.
