I OCed my Cpu and set my PCI to run at 44.3 instead of 33.3 I havent had any problems yet, but I have heard that it can lead to things bieng unstable, I have a Voodoo 3 2K PCI and its set to 143Mhz and I can over clock it any more it wont support it. Is it because the PCI is set to 44.3?

What do you mean it wont support it? Then it again if your saying its because of the higher than normal PCI speed then maybe so. Is it bad to run your at 44 mhz? Well if everything run fine (although I wouldn't do it http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif ) now you should be ok all though I have heard otherwise in some readings. V32k run extremely hot and overclock better with some with good cooling, you could try that. Get a 486 fan and throw that baby on it. What exactly are you trying to do anyway?

CK, Im just trying to max out my computer to see what it can do. I havent bought a fan yet but I plan to soon. I tried OCing the voodooo to 170Mhz and it locked up during Quake 3 demo test, I OCed it today to 166Mhz and its running fine. I want to find a software utility that will moniter my CPU temp as well as my Vid card temp. Do you know of any?
get a temp sensor, and it's bad at 44, you don't want to risk burning your cards, it won't burn now, but keep it up, and u can end up burning it. if you don't have proper cooling, then you are now taking a very big risk...

motherboard montior would be about what you are looking for

I think Motherboard Monitor still uses BIOS temperature readings in windows so if he doesn't have temp sensors already aboard then MM will not work. Of course theres always Radio Shack.

You run the PCI bus at that speed, and it seems fine....it most likely is OK, but there is the chance you'll corrupt data on your hard drive, or the hard drive will get unfixable, permanent errors such as BAD CLUSTERS.
If your lucky, you will see it start making mistakes, but you'll most likely get it all at once, when your OS looses, or corrupts crucial data.
Be CAREFULL!! :-)

CpuCook, Will my harddrives become unstable because of heat? or because of the power bieng up so high? I didnt explain myself better on the cooling part, I have 3 cooling fans for the case 1 blowing in (Front) snd two on the back blowing out, I have a server case as I have 3 HDD one fan is just for them, I also have a heat sink and fan on the chip, I havent bought a fan for my video card yet, is what I meant in my previous posts. I have over 50 Gigs of info I would hate to lose them, they havent been giving me any probs at all, I have even burned Playstation backups to CD since I OCed.

hey what kind of hard drives are you running? they sound like champs to me...

Speed,
The frequency of the PCI bus MIGHT cause hard drive troubles.....I just had to do a restore two days ago for this very thing....too fast pci bus, and the hard drive corrupted the VFAT files.
If you've been running at that speed for a couple days already, you SHOULD be OK, but I'm not promising anything....at the least, your PCI cards will die young :-)...but we all expect some trouble when overclocking, to me thats whats exciting about it!...you know....will it run OK, crash, or burn? It's sorta like gambling IMO :-)
Have fun,

Speed,
I have messed up two different hard drives at bus speeds lower than that. I don't think the slight increase in CPU clock is worth risking a 44 mhz pci bus. You may wear out your PCI cards faster, but it is the data corruption and damage to the HD that I would worry about.
Get a chip, or a motherboard that will allow you to run at a PCI bus that is more in spec. Or settle for a bit less speed, and a computer that works.

I can run my CPU at the same speed and bring my PCI Mhz down to 33.3, But how much speed will I lose off my PCI cards? Any? I guess I can bring them back down and OC my Voodoo card. Its not worth the risk of messing up my harddrives if Im not gaining any speed from having them up to 44.3Mhz.

My harddrives are Wesern Digital. U DMA66.

33.3 is where it is SUPPOSED to be. What PCI cards are really speed dependant you're worrying about? A sound card.. no.. NIC? Won't run fast enough to fill the 33.3 much less 44, modem? Same... TV tuner? Wont slow down...
Maybe you're video card... just maybe! But it's not worth the risk. Are you using a seperate hard drive controller card for your drives? That could be why they didn't die! If you're using the on-board IDE controllers from the BX chipset, wonder why the withstood that abuse?
