I'm considering getting the Celeron II and overclocking it to 100MHz FSB, but I'm already running a P3 500@575 and it would suck if I couldn't get to 100MHz FSB with the Celeron II. Tell me it's going to work and give me your success stories, please. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Look at
http://www.overclockers.com/

CPU database.

I don't think 800MHz is an unrealistic goal, though I've not played with the celery2, I do have a P3 550E (same core, twice the cache) at 852 stable.

Make sure that either your mobo can support the lower voltage required by the coppermine cores and that your BIOS recognises the chip.

You can get slockets with on-board voltage regulators and jumpers if your mobo doesn't supply 1.5/1.6V.

I reckon you should do a little research first, get the celery (and slocket and heatsink) set it up and when it's OK, sell your P3 http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

I have an Abit BE6 and the voltages go as low as 1.3v. The biggest thing is that I don't want to waste my money on a chip that won't go to at least 800. I'm considering the 533A and if it only gets to 664 then that would only be a slight performance increase from my P3.

At OC'ers.com, just about anyone with a 533 or 566 FCPGA gets 100Mhz FSB! Barring 3 or so people who say 'Chip doesnt budge, stay away from this CPU'. They probably have some PC66 RAM or dunno about AGP multipliers or sumthing like that.
I would be very suprised if any halfway decent overclocker got a 533 or 566 and couldnt hit 100Mhz FSB

I have the same ABIT BE6. Mine does the dance at 850. You shouldn't have any problems as long as you have good cooling. Get a Golden Orb. Good Luck.

I've been thinking a long the same lines. I went to ebay and searched for "celeron". There are some for sale that have been overclocked already for sale.
I would rather buy from an actual company but haven't found any yet.
links anyone?
I wouldn't go strickly by overclockers.com because most people who can't get it to overclock won't bother posting there.

All I will say is you have a FANTASIC chance of reaching 800+ with either the 533a or 566 cpu's. As for my own experiance I have a 533a that just ROCKS along at 960mhz (120mhz fsb) @ 1.8volts and boots up 992mhz (124mhz fsb @ 1.85volts but is not stable (need better cooling...Ie Peltier or waterblock)

Say MtnSnow
What was the mother board you are using?
May I ask which type of ram are you using?
and what settings did you use for the AGP?
Thanks!

Hey all,

Check out www.atacom.com (http://www.atacom.com) for a reseller that has Celeron II 533/566 that are garanteed to run at 100 mhz FSB. You pay a little more than OEM, but if you are concerned about the risk. . . I bought one of the garanteed processors from them and I have the 533 overclocked to 800 right now. I haven't been able to get it running stable at FSB speeds about 100 mhz however. I am going to work on that some more though.

Good luck.

Spencer,

have you checked the user-to-user 4rum? There are a couple of celery2's pre tested.......

I correct my previous statement:

I have the guaranteed processor running stable at 840 Mhz as of last night. I haven't been able to get it over that though. Core voltage is at 1.7V and FSB is at 105 mhz. I can't get the machine to POST with FSB at 110 mhz and voltage at 1.7. I think either my SB Live or Matrox G400 are having problems running over PCI spec 33 mhz.

Thanks for the replies, I checked around town and no one has them right now. I either have to order it of the net or wait.
