I know a lot of you people have it, so.....

My IP gets changed every month. Atleast that's what I belive seaming as I've had 3 ip's in 3 months.

It's interesting how BID picks up a lot more scans the first week after my IP changes, then the activity dies off.

side note: I'm trying the demo of Norton Internet Security 2k. It appears to be a very well featured program. (cookie blocker, add blocker (I have NO problems with adds http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif), content restictions, and firewall)It passed sheilds up as stealth on everything except the new port 113 (ident)scan they're doing over there.

Neither does BID on Cautious though.

DOH!!! Ha, it's not supposed to be....as I read more.

Another side note:

"My current favorite firewall — soon to be recommended — is the completely free ZoneAlarm 2.0 (ZA2) from ZoneLabs. ZoneAlarm is the only firewall I know of that's smart enough to stealth your ENTIRE machine while still allowing your remote servers to see port 113 as closed. (ZA2 is still being "birthed" and many bugs are still being worked out. But once the product settles down I believe it's going to be THE firewall of choice!)"
Anth, of sheilds up.

You mean @ home changes your IP address every month? I have been with them a year and only had it changed once and that was when I moved.

ZA is a great firewall also.

Ha sorry about the fragmented topic....it could of probably been 3 different ones, guess I'm lazy. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Yup, three months with them and three different IP's. Same address, same computer. I've done clean installs, maybe that's what does it. ???? But I remeber once comeing home from a trip, and I had disabled my network (no firewall back then)....I had an error message when I got back saying something to the effect of "couldn't renew IP".

Interesting.

I have a friend with a dynamic IP DSL account, don't know exactly how that one works.

I've been with @home over 3 months now, and I've always had the same IP. I've done at least one clean install as well.

Have you ever turned off or disconnected your cable modem for any extended period of time? It should stay connected and powered at all times.

Nope. The modem has always been powered and connected to my friendly neihborhood node. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Keep in mind that @home just licences it's technology to local cable company's, atleast in Canada. So different @home carriers might have different protocals and such.
