Ok.....

well have you?

i have theres only "One" problem "One" Pin

when i get loadsa money i will make a tiny hole in the PPGA socket and try an put a socket 7 cpu in it!

think about it the Celeron is identical to the P133 - p233 range!

if anyone has tried please let me know how u got on

(and no that is not the problem with my celery ! refering to my previous post!)

Well Jmc_uk,

I can tell ya now, you will never succeed in this!!!

Why??? It is not just that one pin!!!

The celeron has somewhere around 321 pins and an amd has I thought somewhere around 270.

So you see, it could never fit, intel made sure of that when designing the socket.

That at that moment, and still now, they would be the only one who could deliver cpu's for that particular socket.

Hope this helps a little.

I didnt mean AMD's!!!!!!

i meant The old intel range and i have tried the socket 7 intel chip in the PPGA socket and theres only 1 pin difference!!!!

It is a lot more than 1 pin difference between a socket 7 pentiummmx and a s370 celeron..anyway isint it called a s370 because it has 370 pins?.

DID i say it had 370 pins?

Jmc,

are you trying to pull our leg, or are you just being stupid?

It might fit mechanically with an extra hole in the socket, but neither the pin assignment, nor the electrical parameters of the CPU bus, are anywhere near the same. Even if you'd try and make a pinout adapter, it wouldn't work since the CPU bus works entirely different (Pentium bus vs. GTL+ P6 bus).

Regards, Peter

I think Brydon is right.

You see, an amd fits on a pentium classic board, the socket 7!!!
So therefor, pentiums have to have the same pin lay out as an amd.

therefor, neither the amd nor the pentium classic, will fit on a socket 370!!!

Trust me, here at work several people at assembly make that kinda mistakes.
It never fits.

And if it was that one pin, you should be able to push a part of the other pins into the socket, but you can't, can you??!!

You have to know those chips's layout before you blindly try your approach.

You will see my friends

THE TEST will commence!

I wish you a lot of good luck then.

Pentiums/AMDs using the socket 7 platform will NOT work under the PPGA socket and vice versa bacause they have completely different protocols.

You may instead try to invent an adaptor that will make a socket 7 cpu work under a PPGA socket system. That will be more worthwhile.

Uh-hu http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Some people. . . . .hehehehe

Maybe he should go ask an Intel employee http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif whether it would work or not http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Hey Cmonster,

That $$$ you are talking about, would probably be not that much. haahha

Since he is talking about pentium classics and a ppga board, well....

PI's are worth almost nothing these days, and the board, okay, that could cost a pretty penny.

Well, I sure as hell would never try such a thing, but hey, he's welcome to try.

Initially i was only joking but this Is getting interesting!

i could make an adapter for it!

dont have a clue why just one of those things you have to try!
