You can check www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com) , but please beware of the steep prices on shipping that some of the vendors will tack on.

One of my favorite places to shop online is www.mwave.com (http://www.mwave.com) .

check out the prices at pricewatch like SUSAN said...

look up the vendors at www.resellerratings.com (http://www.resellerratings.com)

they are rated from 1-7. Look for a high rating and lots of votes.

Good Luck,

Is the P3 a must?

Have you ever heard of the venerable Athlon?

Kicks the **** out of a P3, and is slightly cheaper.

Hi!

I know some about computers but not too much..., so please be patient with me.

I have a Pentium 100MHz, 32Mb RAM (16 original + 16 added later), CD-ROM, Floppy, and that's about it! (Bought in '95)

I want something like this:
-Pentium III (450MHZ or higher)
-64Mb RAM or higher
-lots of Cache
-32 Mb video card

Q1: Do I have to get a new computer or buying parts would be cheaper?
Q2: Do I have to change only the CPU or also the motherboard?
Q3: Can I buy only 32 Mb of RAM and add it to what I already have?
Q4: Is this upgrade doable with only $500 (US) ?

Thanks!

Q1 parts will be cheaper since you can reuse HD,FD,CDROM,etc.
Q2 CPU and MOBO
Q3 No, not ususally
Q4 Yes,

Asus P299 ~$90
64MB PC100 ~$70
PII450 ~$110
ATX Case ~$30
Approx cost $300

I would personally get a sloket ($20) and a celereon 466 ($80) and save ten bucks!!

With this setup you can Oc' the celeron if you want or later on your can buy a PIII600 (this boards max) later when the pices are lower.

You can always get different components. This is only one example.
