Seen that pic earlier this week, yeah it was a sad incident but it happens. Lets never forget to cool the cpu's at extreme levels, for example, peltier, alpha, and vapor chill. Happy overclocking and be safe, never let your cpu turn out like the one you see above.

That's a mess..... someone's sure got to be crying about that!

I guess if you're clocking to the extreme and using water/peltier, the chip is generating heat at a huge r8 and if one cooling component fails, it fries very quickly.

This could be avoided if a simple citcuit was used: I guess a thermistor and an op-amp (or power transistor?) could be used to power a relay that just killed the computer's PSU if the temp rose above a certain point - a few corrupted files on the HDD is a small price to pay for a salvaged chip..... Just a thought!

It's just a joke guys !

But the moral is valid. When overclocking be conservative and cautious. If you want a 900Mhz screaming monster, dont expect a Cel 400/500 to deliver the goods. You will fry it for sure.

O/clocking by 25-30% should be all to expect. Of course there are always exceptions. You just might get lucky & get a good Celeron 500 chip, that will go to 900.
