I'm thinking of picking up one of these from work to oc a new celery 533 but can anyone tell me what the stability is like and has it improved with the latest BIOS revisions and highpoint driver updates.
I'm thinking of how well the Highpoint controller works - ie what's the highest PCI spec it runs at before it starts corrupting data / not working.
I had a tough go with be6, but in fairness it was the first board I replaced. Most of my problem areas were from irq conflicts, it took a while to sort these out, but it was a awesome setup once I got it cooking!
Mine runs smooth as silk. I have a 366@568 (Turbo enabled) and L2 wide open. Can get over 600 but not stable, need to provide more cooling.
Thumbs up.

Oh yea, the drivers are a burger to install but, just keep trying and you'll get 'em.

I've got the BE6-II, and I love it. The only problem is with the resources for the PCi slots. They're a little jumbled to say the least. But if you read the manual (it spells out everything in black and white) and watch what you put where, it should be fine.

I have the BE6 myself and haven't had any problems. I'm running the PCI bus at 37.5. I have a P3 500@575 stable @ default voltage. I get errors @ 600(120*5), not sure if it's RAM/CPU/HD/or the Highpoint controller. The only thing I don't like is that there is no way to measure the exact CPU temp. They only have readouts for MB and a temp. probe that you can place anywhere. I believe this is fixed in the BE6-II.

I got my P3 600E@900 using that motherboard.
So far no problem.

I've used the BE6 and BE6-2 with factory and latest bios updates. Those are, in fact, the two mobo's I'm running right now: Cel366A@550 on this comp, Cel300A@450 on the other. I just got finished with a HUGE ordeal over the PCI resources, took me 3 days to get the systems stable again, I just reinstalled Win2k on this system not once, but twice. Highpoint drivers work fine in and of themselves, but you really have to watch what you put on which PCI slots if you are running your boot/system partitions on the HPT66. This is because they share resources, and it's like a maze, tough to wade through and keep everything organized. I installed my NIC on the wrong PCI slot, fired up the computer after a fresh Win2k installation and BOOM!! Instant registry corruption. Rinse and repeat. Right now I'm running as follows, with no problems.
COMP1
ABit BE6-2
WDUDMA66 (boot/sys partitions) on HPT66 IDE3
CD-ROM on IDE1 (master)
SBLive! Value on PCI slot 3
Realtek RTL8029(AS) PCI Ethernet Adapter on PCI slot 2
Creative Labs Annhilator Pro 32DDR on AGP
----------------------
COMP2
ABit BE6
WDUDMA33 on IDE1 (master)
(no sound card)
D-Link DFE-530TX PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter on PCI slot 1
Voodoo3 2000 on PCI slot 5
All updated manufactuers drivers on comp1, all Win2k Reference drivers on comp2. Note, you don't want to use an AGP card on the BE6, even the updated bios has **** for AGP support. This PCI card runs 20% faster than the AGP model, with the same system specs. Maybe it's just one of my system quirks, who knows. The BE6-2 is a great mobo, and I'd take another one of those over the origional BE6 any day. These two systems are networked via a crossover cable with ICS enabled on this computer. It took me 3 days and 3 Win2k installations to get this setup working, and now I'm happy :
