I am trying to overclock PIII 600eb on ASUS P3V4X. It's in "jumperfree" mode and when I go to BIOS to change the multiplier setting(manual mode) it won't let me(it's "grayed out"). I hope I am not screwed because PIII 600eb has locked multiplier?? :-(
Thanks anyone...

You are double screwed. All P3's are multiplier locked. Not only is it locked, but your CPU runs at 4.5 X 133 MHz Front Side Bus, this means that you are going to quickly hit the limit of your memory in the quest of overclocking. If you had bought a 600e, then you could have gone from 6X100=600 to 6 X 133 = 800. You may be able to get 4.5 X 142 = 639 or if you are really lucky get to 4.5 X 150 = 675. Good luck.

RADAR is right on the money Real Nemo, did you just get the cpu, could you take it back? the 600eb does not leave you much for added gains!

uhm.. you are just plainly screwed. why?

number 1: you have EB (not E)
the B means it runs on a 133MHz bus speed, and that will give you a hard time if you don't have the right mobo.

number 2: locked multipliers, don't worry, all intels are like this (well, most of them)

number 3: if you can't return it, you are screwed.

anyways, if you can return it, trade it in for a PIII 600E, hehe, that will satisfy you by about another 100% http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Sorry bud, you should have done for the 600e...

If you are really lucky, you can get it to 900MHz. Only possible if you use the right components and tons of cooling, but 800 is almost guarenteed.

He IS royally screwed, but there is still hope........

The reason the thing is greyed out, is you have to set a jumper on your motherboard to jumperfree mode, read your manual.

Then, try setting the FSB to 140 or so, see if it works, if it does, then great, if not, then try bumping the volrage up one or 2 noches. If 140 works fine, try 150. the EB's are really crappy for overclocking, but they still do, as long as yur Ram and other things can handle it.
