Is SoftFSB worth trying or can I get in trouble? Where can it be downloaded from? I went to the Homepage, but couldn't download from there and a couple of the info pages are no longer being maintained.

I have tried this softfsb, but it does not support my mobo. The program can work on certain non-supported mobo's.....but it's just a guessing game with some models.

If you try it,and your mobo is not supported, be ready for some swift & silent Win98 freeze-up's that require use of the reset button to re-boot:-/

Try here to get it -

For supported motherboards, it's a really nice utility. It is extremely nice when dealing with true Intel or OEM motherboards, as they often lack a way to easily adjust FSB's. To find the latest version, and more PLL config files, check out H.Oda's site:

Thanks for the input everyone. Just the kind of advise I need. In this day of cheap cpu (at least in the under 700mhz realm), and cheap memory, I don't think I need to be fooling around with progs that can make my computer life anymore depressing than it already is. ... Thanks again.

Just tried SoftFSB. Works great on an amptron board that allows only 66 or 100Mhz. However, I cannot figure out how to run it with a switch from startup. Any help will be appreciated.

Fried the PLL or somesuch chips on my CD-Rom within 5 seconds of downloading that program.
It was a Cyberdrive 32X....say goodnight Lucy!! They should have a warning on the site, if you ask me.

It's great!!! I got a p2 266 that the clock is locked, and I got a board that doesn't have fsb selectors... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

But then I got softfsb, now I got it running at 333 MHz!!! And my board wasn't even on the list. So all I did, since I have the intel chipset 440lx, I said it was the "Intel DK440LX", worked out great. Couldn't be happier.

Getting over Boot Hill:

Softfsb is a great tool for booting at that core voltage edge. When you find that voltage, that you know your system will run at , but won't alway boot there... Set your board pegs to a lower fsb for booting and use Softfsb to kick it up. It works great!!! It makes booting easier and keeps the heat down. A lot of times booting is stopped because of the extreme heat it generates. Booting is a laborious task, so it is also a good idea to eliminate as many auto-start program as possible.
