Looks nice. I have a K6-2 450 at 500 right now and, using Sandra, my results were a little bit lower than yours. But, i would like to get 550 though. What kind of cooling are you using right now? I am running at 2.3v, i tried 550 one time but could not get into windows, that was at i believe 2.6v. I also need to upgrade my bios first so that it knows to look for 550.

The single best thing you can do for your

system is to replace the video card.

I don't think you are going to get more mhz out of that CPU, and you wouldn't notice much of any difference in system performance if you did. I also didn't see anything regarding your system memory, but if you don't have 128MB (or more) already, I would recommend 128MB for optimal all-round performance.
if you upgrade the vidio you will see greater benchmarks i have my 500 at 550 now and my sandra 2000 marks are 1285 and 884 vidio is tnt ultra 32 meg and 128 megs of pc 100 on a mvp3 chipset
Forgot, blubomber: CPU has a stock fan and heatsink, inblow is on the side of case (Full tower) straight to CPU with 120x120 mm fan and outblow is with 120x120 mm fan through modified PSU. The temp became one problem few minutes ago, when windows goes to screensaver (pic's changing with few seconds intervalls) the temp rices to roof (50'c) and the **** thing boots. Temp in every other situation so far is ok. This is giving me some headache, any ideas ?
Confused, Tepo

Temperature is definately your enemy here, especially since 2.8v core is very high for a K6-2.
As for video cards - I recommend a TNT2, the price has dropped to around $99 for the non-ultra, and I think it offers the most value at the moment. Even if you do not play games very often, you will be pleasantly surprized at the improvement in every area of graphics. Though games are often the best performance indicator for a PC.

You'll want to back off of that 2.8v. That is hot. You may want to invest in a better sink/fan combo. I had to burn in at 2.8 to get my 500 to 600, and eventually w/ Softfsb got it down to 2.6v.
I'm running in Summer Mode now though. It's only OC'd to 550 @ 2.1v.

Is this a AHX or AFX k6-2 450? The AHX chips are very tolerant to heat and high voltage. 2.4v is default for AHX, but the 2.2v AFX will certainly burn at 2.8v.
My k6-2 450 AHX 2.4v is running at 5.5x100-2.8v. I use a water cooler......I would not run 2.8v without it.
Try for 2.7v.....if not, turn it down, or it will burn. I guess in a week or two it will quit.
cpucook.
p.s. - I have burned one cpu at 2.8v, and water is the only sure way to run that much voltage, and not burn up within a month.
Thankz....
Sorry, forgot to post the mem, its 192 (128+64)megs of PC100. No problem whatsoever with mem. Yes I know about the video part... (Thin wallet...) Some advice of one v-card with good price/quality ratio? I'm not that into games, so I don't think any Geforce DDR to me.. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif actually having some small problems with my setup right now, my fujitsu UDMA 33 HDD is loosing some speed, for ex. when I start word or excel the splash screen stays a little bit longer, not much but so You can see it. Any suggestions ? BTW, any1 know where to get some bios tweaks that works in W2K ? Tweakbios with autoexec, W2K doesn't use autoexec to my knowledge ?
Thanks, Tepo
PS: If You suggest a v-card, please give a price in US$ so I can cry when I check the Finnish prices... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

Here's the codes.
* - A is Socket-7, B would be notebook ball grid array type
* core voltage - F 2.2V, H 2.4V, C 2.0V, and M 1.9V are used in K6 series.
* maximum temperature - X is 65C, Q is 60C, R is 70C, K is 80C and Z is 85C.

geeeez .... 2.8 volt core? keep her cool! looks pretty good though ... nice job!
Wow... A whole lot of answer's...
Just got from work, (10pm, started 7 am...) so here's some thoughts: Yes I'm aware of the video thing, actually I think it's the first thing in my list, besides BP6 and a few cel's. The temp is my enemy, as I so brutally finded out. My cpu is AF(X), how/where do I find out the last letter ? Doesn't really matter, it doesn't go as high as 65'c anyway. (it boot's at 50-55'c) The voltage on the aother hand (I think) is not the problem, had it few weeks 24/7 @523 5,5x95 2,6v with no prob at all. I just wonder if 550 really is the limit of this thing? BTW does K6-2 use different areas of CPU to do for ex. display things/zipping process and so on?
Softfsb on the other habd, havent foud the needed file for my mobo yet, so this remains unsolved at the moment.
Best reg's, Tepo http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
PS: Really happy I joined sysopt, I like the answer's I get here, I can ask any stupid questions and yet get really good answers. Really love it! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

More Juice? For this processor your figures look very good but I am curious as to how come can it be possible that your processor load shows as 0% and your threads show as 0 as well?
To Lancelot:
I dunno! It's always shown those zero's! Anything to do with Sandra2000/W2K ? Really don't have an answer to that. Just to check this out, I took the bench in Sandra99 and the zero's were there...?
OK, You got me confused, Tepo

Tepo
Just as an example my sys is similar to yours (an AMD K6/2 500) and my processor load shows as 100% and the threads are 59.
What do other users results show?
Lancelot: Whao OS are You running? I've necer got anything except zero's to this as long as I've had W2K.

OS is Win98
Could be it's the OS's that makes this thing. Tried it in mother's puter with W98SE and it comes with 100%. So that's it I guess.
