I think I like Maxtor's no quibble drive warranty - A friend gave me a dead 3.2GB Maxtor drive for free; I sent it back to Maxtor RMA, shipping cost $8. I just got the replacement drive, a 6.4GB Diamond Max!!!! There is a note on the invoice "DRIVE MAY BE REPLACED WITH SIMILAR CAPACITY BASED UPON AVAILABILITY"

CMonster - you lucky duck, why I oughta kill you.
One question - did your friend give you his hard drive and the receipt for the hard drive purchase also?
I'd come to think that Maxtor would require proof of purchase in order to replace your dead harddrive.
Maxtor, W-D, Seagate, and Fujitsu all base their warranties on the date code on drive. I have had failures with all & nobody requested reciept. Even had WD 420 mb drive in machine purchased used fail with 2 weeks left, called them, told them the truth, they said no problem, no paperwork required & sent a new drive! With new date code...
