A friend wants to buy a 550 K6-2 to replace his 300 K6-2. Problem is: I know my 550 runs at 2.3V, but his mobo's nearest voltages are 2.2V and 2.4V, it increments by .2 steps.

Would it be dangerous to run it stock (550) at 2.4V ?

Nah! 2.4 is no problem... Those of us who overclock (NAH!) commonly run their AMD's .2, .4 volts higher than stock and more.....

But, just for S & G's I'd try 2.2 volts first. See how it runs there. If not for some reason, then run it at 2.4.

Good Luck...

While no one has ever reported the overclocking ability of the K6 550, most 500's hit 550 w/ out much increase in voltage. If it's an AHX or AH?, it's probably a factory overclocked 500. Go for the 500 and spend the money saved on a decent heat sink and fan combo. Then OC that sucka.

if you got the guts you can push as high as 2.7 safely and even higher if you are willing to take the risks...

The 550, overclocks easy at 600 and 616. All you need is excellent cooling, 2.6, 2.7 v and a good burn in.

I'm running at 616 for 3 weeks now at 2.6, I have an alpha heathsink and fan and added a large case fan to the graphics card. Without the fan blowing at the graphics card I get random crashes, otherwise stable.
