Good morning...

I need some advices... here is the situation:
PC spec:
- AMD K6-2 400MHz
- ASUS P5A-B
- 128Mb SDRam 100MHz
- WD 3.2 Gb HDD
- Mystique G200 + DVD daughter card
- SBLive full version
- Mistsumi 32x CDRom
- Pioneer 6x DVDRom

Nice spec, you could think... but even with all that, the dvd movies do not play smoothly...

I tried some soft dvd player:
- Zoran DVD
- Power DVD
- Xing DVD

Unfortunately, the frame rate was not what I was expecting...
Am I missing something ?

I suspect there is a kind of incompatibility with the AMD cpu ??? Maybe this chip is not powerful enough to run DVD's (400MHz ???)

Any input much appreciated...

Stan

PS: I tried any combination of resolution, no joy. It should not make any difference as I have a dvd decoder...

Naw the chip is plenty powerful, shouldn't be any incompatibility probs either. What it could be is your busmaster drivers. Is this the ali chipset?Do you have dma checked for the dvd drive?this daughter card you have,is this not a full dvd hardware decoder?Software decoders are notorious for not working properly and not giving smooth framerates.I had jerkiness on my dvd(with a k6-2 300)after playing with the busmaster drivers I managed to get it smooth.I think going to a hollywood mpeg2 decoder is a good idea.Make sure you do not have UDMA checked in the bios for this dvd drive.

Hi,

Thanks Envy...
I had to upgrade almost everything with the latest drivers: IDE drivers, AGP drivers, ...

i run a K6-2 400, and my creative DVD is smooth as silk...creative recommends dis-abling DMA for best results.
