I have a k6-2-350(2.2v) that i was running at stock speed cuz my main fan was acting up that colled the proccessor the company hasn't sent the thing out yet but it'll be coming in soon. I have no trouble w/ the fan as long ats the comp is NOT turned off. once it is i have to spin it up manually and it'll run fine. i had the processor at 2.1v cuz that's all it needs to be stable at stock speeds now. i had the comp on for about 45 mins and wasn't doing anything to it. (power went out and turned it on) i had the case cover on and didn't think aobut spinning it up then it locked up trying to get into a game and i spent about 20 mins trying to reboot and make it work (kept locking up) then i thought of the processor and turned off the comp opened the case and then i touched the heatsink and i have a burn mark on the back of my hand. what do you guys think is going to happen to this thing? like what would all that time w/ only a stock heatsink have done to it? It still hurts.

I think you knocked off some life from that CPU, but if it still runs, then it's got some life left in it. As for your whole heatsink/fan thing, I think it's about time you invested in a new one: alpha if you can afford it, stock if not.

if it will still boot your going to want to keep that chip as cool as posable if it got that hot there's a good chance you burnt at least part of it even if it does boot the L1 cache would be one of the first things to go
watch your bench marks

You burned your hand on your heatsink? It is probably fried! How is that possible @350 on 2.1V?Your fan is damaged,so it might not have enough rpm to cool your heatsink down.

as long as pieces of your flesh did not burn to the processor i doubt that there will be any lasting damage to the processor. if you had burnt your hand say on the core or the pins that might be more of an issue, as you would then have to clean it out thoroughly, as i do not think pieces of burnt flesh in the pin array will not help....
sorry I am in a wierd mood
if it still boots and runs it should be ok, it won't last as long as it would otherwise, but I KNOW thta is NOT an issue judging from the workout you have given that processor already.

yeah i have been a %&@#$ to this poor little old processor. would you guys suggest a new processor FAST? I've been trying to get myhands on a k6-2-500 and be mean to that one too. hey neo i didn't burn my flesh to the heatsink i just have a burned hand (still hurts). see i have the fan and the heatsink seperate from eachother cuz a 4 inch fan don't fit well onto a socket 7 heatsink. I'm trying as hard as i can to keep the fan libricated enough so that it'll run 4 a while it working fine right now but it won't for long. i'm thinking about getting a peltier for my next heatsink but i've heard some bad things said about when the fan stops working. is it true that it'll literally FRY your processor if the fan fails.
I think it's kinda cool that peeps are remembering how much i've been running this 350. Hey whats the fastest a 350 has ever been posted as going on this place?

I don't know what the highest is,but most only hit 380 or 400.That is pretty low because my K6-2 333 hits 400.That is because the 350 is 100MHz FBS and the 333 is only 66.

well everybody i have good news http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif i tried my processor out at 475 again yesterday (brought it down until new fan witch i got) I no longer need to run the processor at 3.1 volts to get it to go to it anymre i only need 3.0 volts (c'mon it's at least a little better) the processor is running nice and cool w/ the new fan and it's a stable as a house on a new foundation http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

hmm the question here is this
WHY IN GODS NAME DID U NOT JUST GO TO A LOCAL COMPUTER SHOP TO BUY A 4"FAN
EVERY COMP STORE HAS THEM MAN!!
my god this is like blasphemy
the poor little cpu did not do anything to deserve this dreatment
GET A FAN&HEATSINK COMBO AND THEN USE THE 4"FAN TO COOL IT FURTHER
my god this is a outrage to the OC comunity the life of your CPU is depending on a single 4"fan !!!
thats all for me since i soon wont be able to control my language

I'm sorry i put it wrong, radio shack didn't have them in stock (gamma28 blower fans) so i just had to wait until they got their next shipment of them in. i have an alpha heatsink(passive) w/ 3 gamma 28 bliwerfans pumping air through tha thing iz cool. no really it's like the coolest it's ever been. i got one of those 25 dollar sb series ones i don't remember the part number. do you guys think that this is enough. (don't think air cooling is gonna get me much further. hey have you guys heard of alchohol cooling. my friend has a thing in his comp that runs off alchohol instead of water. it has a huge 12 inch fan blowing on a grille outside the thing (he added the 12inch fan and its a regular floor fan that he ripped apart to use.

Isn't alchohol cooling a bit dangerous..highly flamable http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Actualy no !! alchool is worst that water to carry heat. But it have the avantage to be less "viscous" if you understand what I mean. so in little space it wil run faster and smoother down the pump and in the pipes. I has also it has the big anvantage to be not conductive to electricity so less danger to computer part (yes for the little brain perfect water does'n conduct electricity but pure-water get so easy polluted with salt or anything esle that it will conduct one day ore another) Water is better that alcooh .. if not why there is not alcool in your car ... (water is also better that standart green coolant but it froze in winter)
that it for the little phisic course http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
