Can someone tell me what is neccesary to play MP3 files? I have downloaded a couple of them and am unable to open them.

I'm sure with a little more research, I could find an answer, but this is just a lot more fun! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Assuming you running Win9x, media player will play them without any problem. If you interested in good quality sound with an excellent user interface, Winamp would be your best bet. It also supports other cool options, like skins and plugins. Best of all, it's free:

You'll need to re-associate the extension .mp3 to WinAmp (where ALL .mp3 files open in WinAmp)

Just hold right click then hit Shift on any .mp3 file, in the Open With dialog box, go to WinAmp and check the box that says Always Use this Program to open files of this type.

Or go into WinAmp, Preferences, Setup|Files types and add from there.

Enjoy! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Also, here's a way to play your realaudio files in WinAmp, so you don't need severl differnt config's:

Make sure you RealAudio installed and functioning. The latest version is Real Audio 7, get it here: www.real.com (http://www.real.com)

Now goto this page:

http://www.winamp.com/customize/detail.jhtml?componentId=3500

and download this WinAmp plugin. Follow the installation instructions in its readme file. It uses the real audio decoding engine, but allows you to have the WinAmp interface, so it's the best of both worlds. If you interested in other plugins, just visit the WinAmp site. There are hundreds of different things you can do with WinAmp, as it is a very versitile user interface.
