Congratulations! I'd love to run that myself, sign me up!

BUT, $319 suggested retail? I wonder what the street pricing will be?

Can't see paying three bills for it, but I'd love to give it a whirl!

Good Luck...

I just downloaded the Win2k compatibility tester, and this is what it told me:

Hardware
--------
This section of the report describes hardware compatibility issues.

Incompatible Hardware

The following hardware may not support Windows 2000 without
additional files. Please see the Microsoft Windows 2000 Hardware
Compatibility List at http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/compatible/ for a list of
compatible hardware. (Some of the following entries might be software
that is registered as hardware.)

Network adapters
Diamond Multimedia Shotgun

You can continue with the upgrade, but the hardware may not work
until you supply the additional files.

Incompatible Joysticks

The following joysticks need additional files from the hardware
manufacturer to work with Windows 2000.

LogitechWingManForceUSB

Software Incompatible with Windows 2000
---------------------------------------
This section lists information about programs that are incompatible
with Windows 2000. Before upgrading, evaluate how important these
programs are to you.

Software That Does Not Support Windows 2000

Setup has found programs on your computer that do not support Windows
2000. Contact your software vendors to obtain updates or Windows
2000-compatible versions. If you don’t update these programs before
you upgrade, the programs will not work.

Disc Detector (in Control Panel)
Norton AntiVirus
Norton AntiVirus LiveUpdate
Norton Speedisk
Norton Utilities Integrator (on the Desktop)
SiSoft Sandra 99 Standard
System Information (in Control Panel)

Before you upgrade to Windows 2000, you should remove any
incompatible programs. After the upgrade, uninstall might not work.
Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel can help you uninstall most
programs. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and
then click Add/Remove Programs.

Incompatible Hardware Accessories

The following programs support your computer hardware; however, they
are incompatible with Windows 2000. To see whether updated versions
of these programs are available, visit your hardware manufacturer's
Web site.

Creative Labs SoundBlaster Accessories

I don't understand why Norton Utilities 2000 or Norton Anti-Virus 2000 aren't compatible with Win2k.. ::sigh:: I just bought these!

Yeah, the $319 ESRP sounds a little inflated.

Can anyone fetch me a feature sheet for Win2k? I've done some research on the new features with Win2k. I'm basically just worried with these three thing:

º Stability
º Compatiblity
º Performance

But I guess we'll all looking for those things in an OS. Maybe Win2k Pro will be a step in that direction.

I just tried to run the system analyzer from ms's site, and it keeps crashing, so I can't determine if win2k will like my hardware or not...maybe someone can tell me:
pcchips m599lmr mobo

k6-2 450 @2.3V
10.3gb maxtor hd
13.6gb maxtor hd
memorex 48x cd rom
usb zip
usb hp812c printer
standard floppy

I've had a chance to play around with the final release Win2k (a copy from a developer meeting), and I found it to be a serious step up from Win9x. The system was extremely stable and had good performance. If you do opt for Win2k, make sure you have hardware that is on the compatiblity list, otherwise you'll have more problems than it's worth.

From preliminary feedback, a system with a 400mhz or greater cpu and 128meg of memory is very desirable, since this OS loves memory. I would seriously look at going to 256meg of memory if you plan on using this as a full time OS. The coolest feature is multiple cpu support (2 cpu's for Pro), meaning that a bp6 and two celery's rock with this config.

Deep_sky, I heard of issues with some super7 setups, but I can't confirm this, since my involvement with Win2k was on an Intel BX platform.
