On my Abit BH-6 in the CPU soft menu where you set FSB speeds and clock multipliers, etc, it looks like this:
FSB(fraction)N or S
FSB is anywhere from 66 to 155 in very odd increments. Fraction is either 1/4 or 1/3, which controls the Memory bus. (Later on there is a 1/1 or 2/3 which controlls the AGP relation to the FSB speed.)
Now, after the fraction is either an N or an S. There are some duplicate fraction settings, one with an N one with an S. Other do not duplicate. I can't seem to tell any difference in operation (with my p3-500 I can never go beyond 118 FSB reliably, N or S). But I am really curious about this letter. Anyone know what it means?? thanks...

please, someone must know the answer to this, I can't imagine this motherboard is the only one that does this....
i dont think you have a bh6, the bh6 is limited to 133mhz fsb. well you might have the bh6 rev1.1(i think its also called v.1.1), i think thats a newer version than the plain bh6.

Though I no longer have it, through various versions of the bios, I never saw an N and S in the bios like you describe. Anybody else?

I am quite certain I have the bh-6...I bought it about 5 months ago, I am not sure which revision, must be the new one. I will check though. Hmmm at least one person hasn't seen this S and N thing....darnit I wonder what the heck it does..

YEs, I have BH6V1.1 according to Sandra. It has the 440bx chipset, too, so I wonder if anyone anywhere can even get it going at over 150mhz FSB. I top out at 118 (N or S)...

The obvious solution would be to look in your manuel and read up on the bios settings...............mayhap you do not have it though.......... then go to http://www.abit.com.tw/english/index.htm the and search around for a downloadable manuel for your mobo.....and maybe you could shoot off abit tech support an email or two if you can not find what you need on thier site...had I said Mobo I would gladly help..............heres a little tip...most good companys have downloadable manuels on thier website

oblivion, thanks for this rather obvious suggestiong (RTFM!). I should've thought of that. I actually did look in the printed manual, but didn't realize the manual on the web site would be more complete. Here's the difference FYI:
"S" means this frequency implements spread spectrum modulation. For EMC (Electro-Magnetic Compatability Test) testing you may want to choose these options for optimal results, we do not recommend you use these "S" frequencies, except for special reasons. Some values you select may cause system instability under some conditions, please be careful. "N" means this frequency does not use spread spectrum modulation, these frequencies are for general settings use.
