I am looking to upgrade to a P3 600 Slot 1, coppermine, 100Mhz, and some PC 133mhz Ram.
The plan is to try to overclock this P3 to 800mhz.
My question is, Which P3 600 is the one I want?
When I look in the adverts there are many different P3-600s. Some end in 'E', some in 'B' and some in 'EB'? How do I know whether I'm looking at a Katmai or a Coppermine?
Also, is the "Flip-Chip" version just a Socket 370 version, or have I missed something?
Thanks

I would advocate getting the 600E FC-PGA. The E designates coppermine and FC-PGA designates it is a Flip Chip socket 370. Buy a conversion card and go forth and overclock that bad boy to 800 MHz and beyond.
P.S. Don't buy the B models, they have a 133 MHz FB which means you have to use a really high FSB to over clock them.

I just bought the 600e (slot 1) for my be6 board, it overclocks to 744 but my ram stops me there. pc100 generic stuff so if you dont want to run a convertor card you dont have to. hope this helps
Ps like radar wrote dont get the 600eb

Go to www.overclockers.com (http://www.overclockers.com) and in the tips&techniqes section read the article called Coppermine S-Specs and it will give you the info you need. Try and get one with the new stepping as a gig may be possible http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Radar, I'm curious as to why you would advocate getting the 600E FC-PGA and then a card?
Why not a 600E? a lot of guys, myself included have slot 1 running 800~840 with little or no problem getting there.

FCPGA coppermine
----------------
0.18 micron - easy to overclock
256kb full speed cache
1.65V
Katmai PIII
----------------
0.25 micron
512kb half speed cache
2.0V
I read that old Katmai PIII500 performed better than Coppermine700 when dealing with lot of amount of data (like SETI)... If you like gaming, go for coppermine, if you do heavy 3D graphics and torture your CPU with heavy math and lots of data, go for Katmai.

Ok then,
So my next question is; do I keep my ABIT BH6 or is there a better motherboard to go for?

Have a look at the Asus P3V4X, theyre only about a 100$ and seems alot of people like its "features"...
