Bit off topic, but It'll be interesting to osee what people guess.
I crisped my first system today - 486 - friends (we both toasted it). But did it die from:
1. Overheating
2. Peanut butter
3. Water
4. Deoderant
5. Sellotape
6. All of the above.

i bet it's #6

Techically, it died from #1...... the fact that you removed the heat-sync so that it was easier to apply #'s 2-5, were the proximate cause of #1 <lol>.

It was probably the water that finished it off, but arent compters to expensive to fry?

Answer to Haervii. Yes they should be Grilled, Broiled or at the very least Saute'ed

I would say nr 2, the peanutbutter.

Why???

Because that is the most unlogic thing, with which you could kill your pc.

Pim.

I would say the deodorant. Alpha when will you try to make a grilled-cheese sandwich on a CPU? Wait a minute... oh, nevermind... LOL http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Ahhh........Alpha - I wondered why it was smelly in here; you burned up your deodarant!

#4 is my guess, so long as you guys sprayed it onto the CPU once it had been on for a couple of minutes http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

You sure have some weird experiments over there Alpha, no wonder the Irish have such a bad name http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Its Heat, peanut butter and deodrant. Lets see the deadly combo of peanut butter and deodrant with heat will make a nasty stench but will taste great and keep you smelling fresh.

I'm guessing that it's a trick question with deliberately misspelled words. The choices should actually be:

1. Overeating
2. Peanut butter
3. Watermelon
4. Dead rat
5. Cellulite
6. All of the above.

Given these corrected choices, the answer should be obvious...

A rat (overweight from eating watermelon rinds and peanut butter sandwich leftovers in the computer room) tried to lose weight by jogging on the CPU fan. Drag on fan caused CPU (running 100% on RC5) to "crisp". Given the above irrefutable evidence, the answer would have to be 6. All of the above.

Do you remember this guy who said hea had his k6-2 400 @ 798? You ate your guts out to get him out of this forum cause he was "using up bandwidth for no good reason" (very democratic!). So my question is how is exactly this thread not doing the same? I can't hear anyone complaining about it, and personally I think it is funny, but it falls under the same accusations as the other one.
My point is, next time you don't like reading something, as many people do not like reading how somebody fried a chip in detail while the came to find a solution to a real problem, just do not read it! Don't go about in the worse undemocratic, narrow minded way yelling about it and crying to close it down. Personally I was really frustrated about it as any form of patronising by any person who has no right in doing so is unacceptable.

I think telling a blatant lie and having a quick joke are two different thing otheos. I believe alpha stuck some of this stuff on a cpu and it is a laugh but when someone starts telling stories from the twighlight zone then that is where they belong not here. Just my 2p worth.

So, does that mean it was the peanut butter? And how did that guy oc that high? heh,heh...

alpha

1. I did not claim that that thread was wasting bandwith. I said that it was wrong to mislead people with blaitent lies.

2. This thread is 100% true - my friend is a complete messer and that's how the whole thing got started.

3. I can find a hundred threads that might be considered a waste of bandwith.

If this thread is bagged, it'll be continued at my place (http://zxboards.8k.com).

Doesn't have to be overclocked - forum is called overclocking and cpus. We did melt stuffon the cpu, so I suppose it's allowed http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

The correct answer is:
#6 - all of the above - the water in the bios finished it off, though. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

My post is not about this thread been garbage... nor lie. I think that people should not be patronised, and if you feel mislead you have all the info in the world to prove him wrong. By shutting him down you just take the right away from him to speak (and yes even to lie). As for alpha's post, I said it is funny and by all means has a place here. I just stress that NOBODY can tell anyone to shut up. And as I've said, the "burn the witch" way of acting is (I hope) left in the dark ages.

As I said before, I never said that the 400->800mhz thread was a waste of bandwith. I said tha the guy was lieing and shouldn't post lies. This is no lie. I see where you're coming from, that this thread could also be considered a waste of bandwith, so don't snap at other people so quickly, but I never said anything to do with bandwith, so please stop using that argument on me. I have no objection to you pointing the free speech thing out, and you are right, but I didn't use the valuble bandwith argument.

Ok, back to the subject on hand. My friend and I managed to get the 486 working again, with minor damage to the bios.

edit~
"We" don't lock anyone down - it's done by da mods.
