They had that idea going some time ago in those old video cards.
I've got a ATI xpert@play w/4mb onboard and 4mb addon.
How come they won't give us have that option with new video cards now?
It'd be great if I could add 32mb/64mb ram onto my geforce....
Any ideas guys?

No plucky it can't because the new cards out htere use very high memory speed and how closer the memory to the video chip is
how higher the peed is itcan take.
how longer the circuit lines how dificulter it is to ensure good perfomance.
and also a slot that would fit that video memory it would make the card
to expensive !

I still think it's a great idea. I wondered why they never gave us any SIMM slots on video cards back in the Cirris Logic 1MB days, and now with the advent of PC133 SDRAM I am thinking again that adding a DIMM socket might not be a bad idea. Maybe a little more memory could offset the speed issue. But then it is more profitable for the card manufacturers to sell new cards every 6 months.
*Even so, wouldn't it be nice to be able to go and buy a *fast video DIMM?

Guys, you must remember that manufacturers strive to bring you the latest technology, they can only do this by selling units, an upgraded unit meens you wont need to buy their latest unit... so they dont produce 'upgrades'. Very simple.
