Hi guys,

I just got my new Cel 566 in today (Malay SL46T) and was curious about something. It is a bare chip with no cap on it. No aluminum, just the green board with the blue chip in hte middle. I tried lapping it for an hour or so and now it won;t work (I am just kidding!) Seriously, does the fact that it is OEM make a difference in this area? Do they usually come with a cap?
Thanks
Dave

http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I have not teste it yet (or modified it or OC'ed it) but will give you the results later. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Dave, I think yours came just the way it's supposed to be. My retail P3 550 CuMine is just a small chip about the size of your little fingernail mounted on a wafer with what looks like this blue plastic over the cpu, so that sounds like what you're describing. I'm interested in the results you get from that chip, though, so keep us posted.

I'm petty sure that all new coppermines are designed like this in the flip chip format. This is because I think Intel moved somethink that used to be on the back of the chip to the front to allow better cooling. I don't advise lapping the blue centre because just behind this is the CPU core - from what I've read the temp decrease is only 2-3 deg C anyway and the risk in damaging your CPU might be too great.

Edit : let us know how you get on with o/c on that chip. I bet you get to 850 (or maybe that's I hope you get to 850).
