I was telling my insurance agent that I was looking for a used laptop...He pulled out a Toshiba T4700CT....Said..."give me what you think it's worth".....WHAT IS IT WORTH...I don't know the specs...he says it's a 486 with 8megs but not sure of the hard drive ( saw that the C drive had 327 total with 184mb free) size..9 1/2" diag color screen .ANYONE KNOW...No CDrom, No modem...What it cost to add an external cd and modem? will this machine handle Word 2000, Win 95 and allow for the internet use? What I like is that I know it's history, and don't have to fuss with shipping and questionable condition. I really only wanted to spend less than $200...will I rack up the costs with the CD, ram and modem to the point of forgetting this deal....

$200?!!!

I could've gotten one for $75 from BigBopper, but I've changed my mind.

Here are the specs to his system:
486 DX4-100
420mb hard drive
3.5" floppy
*no sound
*no cdrom
10.1" vga colour screen
trackball mouse
Win95 and Word97 Preloaded.
Comes with 1 battery, but no charger included.

You better get a hold of him quick if you want it 'cause he said he's going to donate it to charity! Here's his email addy:

Hope this can help you save a couple of green paperbacks.

too late, already promised it to the charity group. But to answer your question, mine could handle word 97 and had IE 5.0 on it. However, it had 24 megs of ram. I know some guy that has one similar with a 14.4 modem in it, that uses it to check email when he's away from home..uses a free internet service. SO it is useful if you don't feel like spending lots of money on a new laptop.
