I have ran my K6 2-450AHX 2.4v @ 5.5x95=531. I have also ran it at 5.0x100=506.....either setup runs on just 2.6v, and Win98 is stable. My CPU temps range from 22c at idle, up to 27c under full load (water cooler), and both the above setups stay around that temp range....now the strange part....
Why is the 5.5x95Mhz fsb slightly faster than the 5.0x100Mhz fsb??......and why does the 5.5x95fsb setup post 531Mhz??I have pc100 ram, and I left the Ram speeds at 100Mhz on both setups. Also, there was no BIOS changes between setups.
FIC VA503+ mobo....revision 1.2a, E-O037.
any info would be great...and I know FIC has buggy junk, but I would like to compare notes with someone with a mobo like mine?

Although the higher speed (5.5x95) will give you better performance in CPU and FPU, the K6-2 starvs for bandwidth. So I am 100% sure the 5x100 will give you superior performance overall due to the higher bandwidth. 500Mhz with this chips is the most you will get since it is an overclcoked 400. As for why it posts 531, don't worry about it, get a program like wcpuid or sandra to tell you the speed of your processor.

Hmmm, I can run at 4.5x112fsb & 2.6v @ 504....but I could see the slow down in Q3arena with the fsb@112, maybe because at 112fsb, I was forced to turn my Ram speeds down to 95mhz to get Win98 to boot???
At 5x100fsb, and 5.5x95fsb, the Ram runs fine at 100mhz.

I'll go back to 5x100 once more, for a few more tests.

THANKS!

Hey cpucook, I have same mobo but with k6-3 400@450 (4.5x100) This is the most stable set up. I had the BIOS maxed out and performance was great until a week ago. For some reason, 3DMark2000 started freezing. I believe it had to do with some drivers I was playing with, but not sure. Anyway, I had to back off my memory timing and disable write pipeline and read around write. I've lost about 100 points in 3DMark200 from 1781 to 1683. So try to max out your BIOS, the gains are significant. There are a few web sites dedicated to the va503+, I will try to find them.
Later,
Ken

Yes, my BIOS is at Maximum speed, but I cannot use write pipeline, read pipeline, or read around write on my board....I read on a site about a problem with the L2 cache on some revision numbers (mine is 1.2A E-O037). I know that if I enable these three settings in my BIOS, I end up doing a FULL Restore. I learned this on my own, and I re-installed Win98 15-20 times, before I could pin-point the problem.

ALSO, I have found that when trying to overclock to 112 or 124fsb, I have to disable UDMA in the BIOS, or Win98 will not boot. Right now I'm running at 4.5x112fsb&2.6v @ 504, with all BIOS options at top speed (well, the ones that work:-). This seems to be the best performer in Sandra2000.
ANYWAY, if you find something out there, please tell me.....maybe a BIOS FLASH??
