I currently have a Abit BE6 motherboard with the latest bios flash. Was running a P3500@620 on it but I just got 2 sticks of PC133 memory in with a P3550E (have a P3600E on the way) I put in the PC133 memory in and booted the PC @100mhz, it puked(reported differt memory amounts and i ot the vcache error), then I realized I had the cas latency set to 2 so I changed it to 3. Booted fine, however I cant go above 115mhz or I cant get past recognising the devices. If I go to 120 or above(this is with either of the PC133 memory slots) I cant even see the video card screen, if I pop in my PC100 I can at lest get into windows @ 133 and almost @ 140.
Does anyone have any suggestions. I just got in 2 Abit Bf6 boards that Im going to put into my systems. Anyone think It could be the mobo.
Please help

Motherboards can be picky about the brand and quality of memory used. It would seem that your PC133 ram is not liked by your motherboard. I would suggest that you exchange it with the vendor that sold it to you for a different type and try it again.
btw. What brand is it?

Generic PC133 sdram unbuff, the chip are Hyundia.
Think I may have more luck on the BF6...
Makes me not want to get rid of this PC100

Yeah...I have some pc100 that runs great up 129mhz then starts throwing out random errors. I did have some pc133 that would barely do 133! Needless to say that is now in my system that only runs on the 100mhz buss and I brought in some high quality pc133 that works great. Do try the pc133 in your other motherboards as it might work just fine in one of them. If not either exchange it or sell it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Well Seeing that this is the second time I have bought PC133 and had trouble with it, can someone suggest some good PC133 that wooks well with a Abit BF6 Motherboard.
Also has anyone bought any PC150 that STEPThermodynamics Sells, is it any good.
Also upon further tinkering I am still puzzled. I installed my new motherboard and it still is acting in the wierdest way.
(It has don this with both the Abit BE6 and BF6)
A. I booted after setting the FSB to 130 it booted all the way into windows with no problems. I installed some drivers and rebooted. Nothing. I kept powering off and on and it finally boot up again (when it doesnt boot I hear all the devices initalize but I never get the video bios screen.
B. Set the FSB to 140, (up'd the I/O voltage to 3.4 and CPU to 1.75) Again it booted all the way, restared and nothing.
Has anyone ever run into this. Have tried 2 differet AGP cards. Why does it work sometimes and somethies no.
Thanks for you Help.
hey quazar are u yousing the cpu bought from Step thermodynamics ?

No, havent bought anything from them yet. I just wanted to know if anyone had bought memory from the and was it any good.
My mobo's are Abit (BF6 and BE6) and both are retail. Would see if I have the same problem on my Asus P3B-F But I just blew it up. (at least I think I did, was pulling a agp card out with the PC off but still plugged in, it snagged on a wire and the metal plating scrached along th mobo, and soft static sound could be heard. When I plugged the Video card back in the PC wouldn't boot. Played with the power cord going into the power supply and I got a "arc welding" amount of sparks coming out of the power supply, Havent tried anything with that system yet, except use the video card which still works fine.)
The tings we learn the hard way....
Anyway I can still use help on my problem..

Buy some of this Infineon (http://queen.pricewatch.com/search/search.idq?ne=19667&l=19621&qc=%22INFINEON%22*+AND+%22MEMORY%22*&CiCodePage=Windows-1252&cr=infineon+ram) 7.5ns ram......it is some of the best there is,it should easily do 150..........look at this review (http://www.gamepc.com/reviews/hardware_review.asp?review=pc133ru2&page=1) of the ram...........I got a stick of it,it is great, and infineon is actually seimans, and they are arguably the best ram manufacturer in the world.

i hve bout pc 133 from step, but i never had to run it over 100. I dont think step sell memory alone, you have to buy the kit with cpu and heatsink. thats how they used to do

I will agree with Oblivion about the Infineon memory. That is what I got after the first pc133 memory wouldn't do what was expected. The Infineon is rock stable!

I've been there oblivion, I don't have the latest bios I know, a little reluctant to try, I did it once and newked my board. I dont see how bf-6 bios is going to help me. Are you recomending Look into getting another board?

Well biff,I really mean you should just check for a newer bios for your MB.......hell maybe you could sell your MB and get a new one anyways..........
OK. oblivion, I'm going to go for the gusto, I'll try the bios flash, it makes sence to me. To lessen my chance of failure I will bone up on it first. If I dont post back U know I'm saving up for another mb. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Biff
Quasar I got almost the same problem since I've been trying to o/c 600e on be6. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum3/HTML/005517.html
I got 2 sticks 128 ram, 1-pc100, 1-pc133 tried one stick at a time to no avail.
I'm kinda stuck trying to find out what this vcache error is all about, Biff

Quazar, I just dropped $250 on (256 total megs)curcial's 128mb w/ECC PC133 for my BE6-II(P/N CT16M72S4D75)Unfortunatly, it's gone up $22 since this Monday.
This memory ran on the fastest setting(2,2,2) at 105FSB <limit of old memory>-with a NON-ECC 128 PC100 micron generic(384megs set up w/o ECC) Running fastest mem settings on 2 new sticks w/ECC enabled FSB set at 109x5.5=600 on a maxed C366.
Zipped 150 megs with NO CRC errors on-off the Htp controller. Overclocking is nice, but w/ECC stability is more important to me IMHO.
If/when I go PIII and run FSB, I plan to be "error free" on this system.
Biff, ABIT sells the bios fairly cheap, I think it's $11 +s/h?
I have spare for mine, they are fragile, but with care they should be no problem with carfull patience in removal and lining up for insertion.
Of course. flashing is a lot easier!
Thankz boszot for clueing me in, the $11 is a steal eh, but now I'm just about ready to flash. I will post in motherboards what I've learned from the reading I've done. thanks again Biff
