www.computability.com is kicking off their new site with some notable bargains. A $149.99 1 meg Palm Pilot Pro (methinks they are dumping the 1 megers), a $189.99 Read/writable CD-ROM and a $499.99 IBM 300mhz K6 refurbished system.

Computability has an EXCELLENT 6.0 out of a possible 7 rating on www.resellerratings.com. (They're not paying me to write this, honest.)

Also, in Computer Shopper, but not on the web site, they're listing the emachine 300k (300 mhz K6 / 66 mhz bus / 32 meg DRAM / 2.1 gig HD / 3.5 floppy / Win 98 / MS Works) for $399 (with rebates). It might be worth a call to 800-741-7752 (mention ad no. K=ZE9) assuming there's any left. Some people may have gotten their CS mag Fri. or Sat... Could be the last chance at a remarkable price point.

As for myself, I'm going to scarf up an ABS Multimedia System 3 which shows up on their web site www.buyabs.com but NOT in Computer Shopper (methinks they are dumping their K6 - 2s). Check out these specs for $729:

ATX Mid Tower 235 watt case
VIA 100MHz Super Socket 7 Mother Board
2 High Speed Serial, 1 Game,*1 Parallel, 2 USB
AMD K6-2 3D Now! 350 mhz. Processor*
64MB PC-100 7ns SDRAM******
4.3GB Ultra DMA/33 ATA Maxtor HD********
40X Max EIDE CD-Rom
ATI Rage Pro 4MB AGP****
15" SVGA .28DP 1280x1024 monitor
Yamaha 32 Voice 128 sound 3D wave table*sound card
80 Watt 14 watt RMS 5" full range powered speakers
Deluxe Microphone*******
PCI 56K V.90 Technology*Data/Fax/Voice Modem
3.5" 1.44MB Floppy Drive
3 button mouse with ABS*With* ABS mouse pad
104 key Win98* keyboard
Windows 98 Pre-installed with*CD* &* Manuals
Grolier's Encyclopedia CD
Corel Word Perfect Suite 8.0

I'm going to cough up $50 to bring the HD to 8.4g and it's $100 for shipping, so $879 total. I think I'm a happy man...

to me, socket 7 is dead. Why else do you think they are dumping them. They are getting ready for those sweet *** k7's.

So what better time for buyers to pounce?

If you believe you HAVE to HAVE the latest and greatest, if you believe something is "dead" just because they say it's dead, then they've got you, my friend.

What is so sweet about the K7?? Suppose it ran ten times as fast as a K2, but tripled the cost of the system?

You can perfume it up as much as you want. Up close, as *** by any other name... is still an ***.

Computer power to the people!
