AMD conflicting reports.

I picked up an AMD K6-2 333MHz proc today and took it home and slapped it in the old Gateway 2000 tower. With a 66MHz Bus on a 2.0 multiplier the BIOS reports a Pentium 266. CPU ID reports AMD K6-2 @ 399MHz. System Properties reports AMD K6-2 CPU. DirectX Diagnostics says it's AMD K6-2 at 400MHz. System seems to be responding fine. A little quicker than the P233MMX it replaced. So, what is it, am I hurting it and will we ever find world peace?

See if you can get a bios update but I doubt it would help. I wouldn,t worry as your cpu is running at 396 it is just that there was no intention of a cpu at that speed running on your board when the bios was programed so the bios doesn't recognise it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
