Missing the point

I have heard before, from a website, that I can't seem to find anymore, that you could overclock soundcards. Has anyone here ever tried it? If so, what the heck are the benifits?

Overclocking sound cards ??? Does it make games characters sound like chipmunks ? lol drojman 03-22-2000, 07:43 PM The only way I know of is to up the fsb, which in turn ups the pci bus a tad. Not sure why you would need to oc a soundcard though... ??? TidalWave 03-23-2000, 12:51 AM You cannot overclock a soundcard. You can overclock the PCIbus, that means the interface between the sound chip and the CPU is at a higher rate. In fact the soundcard is an digital to analog converter, that means the 16 bit digital sound data is converted to an analog signal, and that conversion is always the same rate: 44,1 KHz 16 Bits digital to 0 - 22,05 KHz analog. Ok, there are soundcards that work with 18 or 24 bits, even at 196 KHz, but that is a different converter. D to A rate is always constant and depends on the specifications of the D/A converter. rosmini 03-25-2000, 07:04 PM Since you brought it up I have this really lame pci soundcard with a S3 sonic vibes which I hate to replace cause getting a new card thats better is just not to high of a priority. But this card works fine at 66, and 75 but when running at 83 the wavetable pukes out it squeaks for a second then nothing the fm synth works but sounds is worse than the wavetable. This card is very poorly documented and not supported It would almost seem like aztech doesn't want to admit making it. and s3 hah they are the most poorly supported product I have encountered both sound and video.
