This may be old news to some but... I was toying w/ ideas of what to use for filters in the bays & slots that I've opened for circulation. When it hit me... Why not use a furnace filter as a side panel. It just so happened that I had several in the basement. A little nip here, a little tuck there, a little tape around the fraying edges and there ya go. Recommended times for changing the filters is still up in the air, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a Radio Shack 80mm exhaust fan at the back of the case. It draws a direct stream of (filtered of course) air straight through the cpu, from an open bay cover. With the side panel off I feared that it would disrupt this flow, but it it didn't. I also removed slot covers for an updraft from the bottom of the case; it flows in between the cards up and out. This has all been tested w/ help from the Tobacco companies. All in all I've been able to drop temps about 10C.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Are you forcing air through the filter in some way or another? I had a similar idea. We have one of those stand alone air purifiers. The exhaust on it has some serois power. If you set a half full coke can on the exhaust it will move around. Anyway, I too have the problem of my case getting very dirty on the inside. I was thinking about ducting the exhaust from the air purifier into my case. Ideally this would keep the case very cool and clean at the same time.

How does it keep the airflow, when there is no reason for the air to come through the way you want, when all it has to do is come in through the side of the case? i got better cooling when i put my case back on once I had the right fan setup... at least the machine ran better? interesting idea

Hey akaBruno,

I used the same thing but on the 3" X 2" hole in the front of my case, check it out: http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum3/HTML/005296.html
