Can anyone help, please?

I have a DMA33 HDD as a primary slave and a DMA66 drive as my C: drive (primary master), a DVD-ROM and a CD writer are on my secondary IDE channel. I was thinking of upgrading my mobo to one with DMA66 and better overclocking features. Will my DMA66 drive run in '66' mode if there's a DMA33 drive on the same channel?

I know there are mobo's which will support up to 8 IDE devices, so that would solve the problem, but they are quite a bit more expensive. I could also get an I/O card for my DMA33 drive to keep it out of the way of the DMA66 one.

If this is the best solution, can anyone recommend an I/O card?

Cheers,

Krusty.

no. devices must run at the same speed.

Mmmm... I thought that might be the case.

Looks like I'll just have to spend some more money then!!

hate to disagree, but provided you have a udma66 cable and mobo supports udma 66 the 66 hdd will run at 66 and the 33 will run at 33

Seems 2B differing opinions on this one, 'cos I posted this question on the motherboards BB and I got a similar reply 2 yours, england!! Anyway I bought one of those ABIT Hot Rod ATA66 hard drive controllers and it seems 2B doing the job @ the moment. This is an improvement for me 'cos my present mobo only does 33 and I've got a 20GB Maxtor ATA66 being strangled by my mobo.

I plan to change the mobo 'cos I want one of those sexy P3 550E's to OC and I hate my current mobo anyway (Tekram P6 PRO A5 - nothing between 75 & 95 MHz FSB).

Cheers 4 the input http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

As far as I know the drives will only run as fast as the slowest one on the chain. I have a Abit BE6 mobo ($125) and it has (2) UDMA 66 channels and (2) EIDE channells. I have a CD-RW(master) & Zip drive(slave) on one channel, a 50X ASUS CD-ROM on the other EIDE channel, and my WD Expert UDMA 66 HD on the primary master UDMA 66 channel. This works out great for me. Hope this helps.

Yea but if they share an IDE cable, they will both get poopy performance. When they are both used at least.
