Got an ancient history Mobo (8500TVX, Pentium VX, socket 7). Got a recent processor (K6-2/450). Any way I can get these two to talk happily?

MOBO settings for core V goes down to 2.6 (K6-2 is 2.2), IO V is 3.45 (K6-2 is 3.3), and Bus speed is only 50 or 66 (K6-2 is 100).

Should I give it up on this combo, or can it work?

In case you are wondering, I have a bunch of ancient cheapie no-name boxes that I want to speed up. Can't find older, slower K6's (Mobo would work with K6 PR2 200).

Thanks in advance.

If you have to run it at 2.6 get a 100mhz board and OC it too 500. Get some 100 Ram too, and check to see if those mobo connectors are AT or ATX. They make baby AT's w/ both connectors.

If your bios doesn't puke, you can put in a 450 chip, with thermal paste and good cooling (for the 2.6v setting, should be okay) and set the bus speed to 66 and the multiplyer to 2x. The bios will display some wierd speed, but the 2x multiplyer will remap to 6x with a k6-2, giving 400mhz!

Ok, Here is the Rest of the Story. Nuts. Was able to get the mobo to boot as predicted by Alpha. Had to turn off a few things in BIOS (cacheing, etc) but it booted into NT. However, a semiconductor shaped and sized like the old LM7505 voltage regulator got so hot I could smell it - it was burning hot. Its a D45H2A (whatever that is, probably a regulator for the processor power); the mobo has a pair of 'em heat-sinked right next to the processor. Anyway, the processor was cool to the touch, but this sucker was reeeaaaally hot, so I killed the power. No amount of tweaking helped, so I am back to the original 133 pentium. Oh well. It's back up and running, in its normal slow fashion.

Thanks for the ideas guys, I wasn't even confident enuf to try it, but glad I did.

VRMs do get hot, slap a fan over them - I've burnt my self on them before!
