A 366 is the best because the others won't usually hit the 100mhz FSB mark, meaning that the PCI/AGP will be at wierd speeds, which might prevent good clocking and cause harddrive corruption.

The 333 does not have a good reputation as an overclocker most were lousy for clocking

Well the 333 slot one is horrible for OCing, but all of the later model 333(socket)
will hit 550 from what I have seen I.E.most people I know who have purchased the 333 at the end of celeron production have hit 550+.

It is just a fact that the celeron rarely can go even slightest amount above 600,be it a 366,or a 500.

Say you get a 500 Mhz Celeron, that's a 7.5 multiplier. So if you bump the FSB from 66 to 75, your CPU speed will be 568, AGP will be running @ 75, PCI will be running @ 37.5, using normal dividers. This is probably okay, but the next FSB up is 83. At an 83 Mhz FSB, your CPU speed will be 628 (the max area of a Celeron), AGP will be running @ 83, PCI will be running @ 41.5, using normal dividers (way too much for most hardware). If you use the 2/3 AGP divider, your AGP will run at 55, which is just sad. If your motherboard supports 2/3 PCI divider, it'll run at 28 Mhz, not bad. If you can run a 500 Mhz Celeron at 100 Mhz FSB, the whole AGP / PCI speed thing will be resolved, but if you can get a Celeron to run at 757 Mhz, you're in the 0.01%. If you get a 366 Mhz, and run it at 100 Mhz FSB, your AGP and PCI will be at their regular speeds, and you'll be running at 555 Mhz. Plus the CPU will be much less.

Nice answer Szech...I got lucky with my 400a@600 100x6,2.3v but I think you would have more chance of success with a 366 as most will do 550 without much problem. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

OBLIVION--I didn't necessarily doubt u as my email stated, It's just the info. I received from a couple of sources, that's all, If u can get the same quality Celeron say a 366 and OC it 2 550 then GREAT, I didn't know enough about Celeron OC'ing so I thought that u would have a better chance OC'ing A Celery 500 to above 600, I WAS WRONG. Now since my source for computer hardware only offers Celery's 433 & above, I'll just get the Celery 433 + Abit BF6 as Oblivion recommended. I hope that I can OC the 433 to 550 or a little higher though.

Hey jadison,I am sorry if I did sound harsh, that was not my intent.........if you can manage to get a 366 or 400,I would say go for it..........but a 433 will do fine

Best of luck http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks, I am new at OC'ing (1st OC was 1/2/00), so I have a lot to learn from the Force

Jadison thinks he should get a celeron 500,and that he would get better OCing results with one then he would get with a 333-400.................I have told him what I know on the subject, and he seems to doubt what I have said....I do not want him to get the wrong chip and later regret it,so please some that is wise in such matters please explain to him why a 333-400 is much better then a 500.

(I say 333 becasue I have a friend that has two of them at 600(120fsb)

I picked up a Cel. 400 and have it running at 500 Mhz with stock fan etc. For the price of the 400's now there a good pic. It hit 500 with No problems/ No modifications and has been running great since. But that's just my opinion.

I to have a celeron 400 overclocked at 500 rock stable. My friend has his 400@540. And I think if I get better air circulation I might be able to get to 570. But the 400 is most of the time capable of 500-540. Between the 366 and the 500 though I would definently go with the 366. I hear of it reaching 550 all the time.
