I have a celeron 300a on a m717 motherboard.
The AMI bios has a cpu plug&play setup that autodetects the cpu speed even if you select
366mhz which is the highest speed available.
There are no other cpu settings in bios and
no jumpers settings or switches on the motherboard. So how can I overclock with this motherboard? New bios? I hope not?
Please reply if you know how to oc with this system.

There is a way to bypass the buss-speed autodetection routine on motherboards (changing multiplyers dosn't work on Celerys).
If you have a slot 1 chip, disconnecting pin B#21 should disabler the bus speed autodetect but you still may not be able to change the bus. Be careful! /forum/smile.gif

Thanx I'll try that out. Hopefully it will work.

Did it work? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Unfortunately no. Could up the bus speed. But thanks for the tip, that info could come in useful later. I've had enough of intel for now anyways. Decided to move up to an Athlon 600 with a Viper 770 ultra and one or two voodoo 2000's for 3dfx. The viper770 ultra is supposed to be already overclocked and run real nice. I would get a Viper II but its got too many bugs right now, maybe later when they learn how to make a driver that works. The 300 will always be good for network games of broodwar. That game never gets boring with all the new maps and stuff like stardraft. I added 160 megs ram with some improvement but 300 just wont do for running the new 3d games like Soldier of Fortune and Thief II.

The 717 is a 66-MHz-only mainboard, and the Celerons are multiplier locked. Hence the latter will always run at the speed grade it was factory set to.
