Ok here it is got it to 600 mhz but I'm not sure if it's really valid as there is something wrong with this chip every thing works right but my cpu and fpu benchmarks are really low I swap out the chip with a 300mhz and the bench marks are ok with it so I dont know what is up ?
anyway here are the marks for mmx and 3D NOW from sandra and 2 other shots of it running in windows at 600 MHz 6.0 using the 2.0 mulitplier X 100 @ 2.8 volts http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
well I tryed to post the pictures here but it would not work so here is the link http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Scotter ...
I don't know if she can take much more Captain...steady as she goes.
keep us posted 600MHz from a K6-2 is that a first?
if you're using Sandra are you sure benchmarks aren't screwy .. how about running 3DMark and comparing elapsed times for the benchmark?
btw images aren't working!

Woohoo! Way to go! Mine maxed out at 525! I'm happy with it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif EVERYTHING on my system hates 550 :/ Ah well! So ya got the fastest AMD450! Heh, now what kind of adventure are you going for???

I know you know exactly what you are doing Scott but please be careful http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
You already know this but the chips do have a habit of dying without any notice so just watch it.
Congratulations my friend! 150mhz over spec is pretty **** fine! Almost catching me up(170mhz over spec on a K6-II http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif) but we all know my chip can't have been a 400 core http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.

03-03-2000, 12:45 AM
well I have it backed down to 575 now I just really wanted to know if it would do it http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I ran it like that for about 2 hours and ran sandra, wintune, and DR. hardwin on it most of the time pluse did the screenshots and posted then to the web like that I'll have to get them reposted though as only the sandra is showing up
It gave me a few errors at 2.7 volts but seamed stable at 2.8 no errors at all for the time I had it there http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
remember I'm water cooling this chip and the temps never went above 30/c the whole time keeping the temp that low really makes a diff.
I still need to find out what is up with the bench mark's though it shows low cpu and fpu in wintune also.
I'm thinking I fryed some part of this chip but all my programs still run fine ?

Hey Scotter,
When you set your volts to 2.7, does your mobo give you a power problem? I can't get mine up to 2.6 without it stopping and forcing me to go into BIOS setup :/ My voltage registers as an error. Do you ignore it? I tried 550 at 2.6v and it was a no go. I doubt you fried the CPU, I had another 450 AND a 500 put in and the scores were still low, something else fried maybe? If you find out, LMK! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Thanks!
scotter
03-03-2000, 01:21 AM
yes just set it to ignore and it's fine http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
I swaped my chip with a K62-300 I have and the scores for it where fine put the 450 back in a low scores again
I'm wondering if it has something to do with the P5A's CPU slow down feature. I Called Asus tech about it and they where no help I'm going to call back tomarrow and see if I can talk to some one Higher up http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
buy the way do not let it boot into windows with a error for the power, temp or fan speed
fix it or set it to ignore before you boot to windows http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I never got any of my K6-2s to 600 - not even post... snif!
Congratulations!
scotter
03-03-2000, 02:27 AM
well CMonster you had a very large hand in this one I could never have gotten it to 575 with out the water cooling much less into windows at 600MHz http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Although I need a bigger radiator the one I'm using is not cooling the water enough with out the ice packs the temp goes up over ambient Air temp I should be able to keep it a few deg lower ?

I tried to o/c a Cyrix MII 366 (250Mhz) and the benchmarks were way lower than expected, actually lower than before the o/c. I figured that 300Mhz was just too fast for the chip. It simply would not perform at that speed. BTW, CONGRATS! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif
scotter
03-03-2000, 05:53 PM
it's not just at overclocked speeds that the marks are off even if i set it back to stock they are extremly low and they still scale with clock speed up or down
the other thing is HTL programs like rain cpucool etc, etc, dont work right any more instead of getting a big drop in temps I'm only getting 2 or 3/c drop, before the temps would drop around 10/c or more
Brydon
03-03-2000, 07:30 PM
Do you think you could have damaged the 64kb onboard cache. Sounds like it could be possible or does it? http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Anyway it still did 600 no matter what any benchmark says lol http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
scotter
03-03-2000, 07:49 PM
no not the cache I tryed disabling it in bios and saw a drop from that and every thing I've looked at says it's ok
I'm thinking it's something to do with the Htl programing is on and not shutting down it act's like something is using about 10 to 20% of the prossesor all the time
but nothing is that I can find I've even benched it in safe mode same results ?
Brydon
03-03-2000, 08:00 PM
No I don't mean the l2 on the mobo I mean the onchip 32kb instruction cache and the 32kb data cache. They might just be damaged a bit, don,t really know though. I think what you say about the hlt instruction could be right.Remamber loads of tweak proggies have it built in now and so do the motherboard monitor proggies so there could be something in that. I,ll keep thinking on it. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Brydon
03-03-2000, 08:02 PM
Just another thought scotter but can't you go in on safe mode and then benchmark cause that wouldn,t load up whatever might be causing the prob. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Scotter,
Boy, I am having the exact same "problems" as you are! My P233MMX cpu still shows correct scores on Sandra, so our CPU's are screwed up somewhere. Your cache works okay? Mine is weird...when I play Unreal Tourny now, it ALWAYS says "precaching", before I o/c'd it went right into the intro. Who knows. My rain doesn't work anymore either. I don't get ANY drops in temp. So I'm running at 54C all the time, my Alpha is coming soon though!!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif So hopefully I can get that down below 50C. If I get any answers, I'll let you know!
Gutter Ball
03-03-2000, 08:18 PM
Brydon,
I don't think it's the onboard cache either, I had my 450 swapped out for a new one at the shop and still got the same low scores. I also tried a 500 and it showed lower scores as well, so something else has to be wrong.
No one seems to know and no else seems to have this problem.
Brydon
03-03-2000, 08:24 PM
Gutter Ball I get that precaching in unreal if I run it in D3D but not if I run in glide. What card you got?.

03-03-2000, 08:32 PM
Hey Brydon,
I have the Ati-All-In-Wonder-128 16Mg. I know it's not a great gaming card, but I couldn't pass up such a good price ($185Canadian, about $120US). The video card precaches? It didn't precache when I had my CPU at regular, unclocked speed though. Either way, something is amiss with our CPU's http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif And dang it, I can't beat that girl in Deathmatch(Luthienne or something like that). She's way too good :/ Can't wait until this board gets setup so we can play!!!

well I've downloadded and run just about every benchmark program I can fins plus a lot of diagnostic programs and none find anything wrong I've also run passmark burn in wide open for over 1 hour and not a single error this thing has got me going crazy
all the benchmarks show my system running like a p266 or less but it dont feel like that at all ?

03-03-2000, 11:15 PM
If you got q3 use the benchmark and that would give a real world result that you could compare to others. I think it would show by the amount of fps whether it was producing the fpu etc. of a 600 or not if you know what I mean. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

it's got to be the mobo not the chip I just cant see it being the chip think I'm going to try reflashing the bios and see what that does If I remember right there is a beta bios for this board some where at asus http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Yuck, flashing is baaaaaaaaaaaad! I already lost 2 mobo's in less than a year because of messed up flashes http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif If you flash and are successful, LMK! I don't want to get ANOTHER mobo! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I think we have the same mobo, Asus P5A right? I'm at v1.007 right now.

Scotter;
I've got my 450@550 and 2.5v and I get between 28 and 36fps in UT, 1024x768, high detail all round, S3TC on (Savage4).

as
also the beta bios is for the P5A with built in audio http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif it gives support for hard drives larger than 32 megs cant try it I dont have the built in audio
should have stayed with the P5A-b mobo I had man was it a good board stable as hell http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

start the game hit the console button (~)
type in ( timedimo 1 )
hit enter
type in ( demo demo001 ) or ( demo002 )
at the end of the demo go back in to the console and it should show you your time and FSP
have fun http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Scotter I hope you find the problem. Peter's post re checking the L1 looks promising.
I'd doubt the P5A is the problem unless the board is fried. The board is stable up to 115 at least (I know) and most reviews or posts I've seen on the subject say 120.
I believe the bios for P5A with or w/o Audio is the same file. You can compare files if you want to double check.
Latest beta bios is 1010.02 from the German site I believe.
Good luck.

it's not the mobo it was the chip I got a new 400 clocked to 500 and getting gr8 scores again I fryed the L1 cache chips on my chip that was the problem try getting that cachmem.exe that Peter missel posted about in the other link and run it from a clean boot disk and see what it says about your chip http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Hey Scotter,
How's it going with the CPU? I just downloaded the newest Sandra and my CPU is performing WORSE than before!!! Check these scores out:
208 MIPS
230 MFLOPS
390 IT/S
812 IT/S
Man, this P5A mobo isn't so good after all :/
